This is the first CF board I ever found, and it's the one that still remains out of all the ones I used to be a member of (Tanglewood, Positively Childfree, EZCF, Childfree LiveJournal). I wasn't fond of some of those other places because you can't call parents "breeders" or brats "crotch goblins" or any other more entertaining names. I never felt like I had to censor myself here and it's very liberating to not have to watch my language like I'm interacting with children.

It's a shame things are a little slower here now than they used to be, but I think it's for a lot of reasons: childfreedom isn't as huge of a stigma as it was 10-20 years ago, more people are choosing not to breed and it's becoming more common, and lack of trolls for both the aforementioned reasons. Becoming more commonplace means there are also many more places for CFers to hang out, whereas this was one of the only places to go for a while, I think. Now there are loads of Facebook groups and r/childfree.

I know many of our long-time members are still here, but we don't get too many new folks here who aren't trolls, which I know our lovely mods like thom weed out.

I suppose if we wanted more traffic, sharing the site in other CF groups could bring in new people. But I know I'm always happy this site is here. I can be unapologetically childfree, whereas in real life, I am not too loud about it because I don't want to get grilled over my choices. I feel comfortable and safe here, and I've been here so damn long that I feel like you guys are my unofficial internet family.

I firmly believe that there is no "selling" of the CF lifestyle. It sells itself. There are some people who will have children no matter what. We can only hope they are prepared. (Most likely they are not.)

Some genuinely like children, but statistics show that 50% are oopsies or careless birth control. And there is a set of people who are brainwashed and will believe it will be different for them, and their children will be angels and their relationship will be unaffected, despite most relationships getting worse. They are lost, but if that page causes one person to get a spine and not have a kid they really know they are not prepared to have, good on it.

And the answer is, yes, this is the one place where we can tell the truth. I myself have a health condition that is genetic. This is the one place where I can say that I'm ecstatic that I did not have children (despite doctors telling me there was nothing wrong with me) because genetics are not as advanced as today. This is the only place where I can heap scorn on people who knowingly have this condition and then Breed, and go on FB and whine that their 14 year old child is in a wheelchair and is in pain all the time, and how pathetic it is that they are on the page asking for udder rubs "as a parent" when the real answer was as plain as day: Not passing something along like this isn't "eugenics," it's simply the moral choice and you are breath-takingly selfish to sentence another human to a pain filled life just so someone could call you "Mommy."

I'm always thankful this page exists.

Yes, this is the only wholly honest refuge for us. That is no doubt. I don't like that this board is dead,but the only positive about that is, that we might need it a bit less bcz we found our group so we found comfort and have less reason to seek out more refuge and/or CF is a bit more common and acceptable currently, so we accomplished what we needed in life, having more ppl know there is a choice. People more aware the trap moohood is for women at least. People were clueless about all the pitfalls and claimed they had 'no idea' how it would be. Now many women go into it w/ eyes open or they just say no.

I am surprised how many popular soc media articles don't make it over here, when before we had to be careful of not posting the same articles. But the board is a bit sleepy, so sometime even I don't bother. Maybe we should all promise to make more of an effort.:thumb

we aren't dead yet.. some may not come around as often but we know we can say what we think...even if the majority of the numnuts can't accept it. although perhaps the thought of being kind might come into play.. I usualy aim for that.. if I am elsewhere..
