Previously, I believed his son to have damaged some property of mine, as he has past form for this, and my partner immediately said "It could have already have been like that. There is no proof".Did it break by itself? Possible, not probable. These rationalizations themselves are very childlike, especially for a parent to use

When I said to him that both these times have made me feel like my own feelings and beliefs don't matter, he get really annoyed with me, labelled me as emotional, and had such a mean tone when saying "So what do you want me to do" and then flew up the stairs to tell SS I had stated he had drank out of the carton, which he denied, of course.

The next day when I tried to tell him how upsetting his words and his tone was towards me, he said he wasn't being nasty or dismissive at all-yet he was. I said I found it so upsetting to be invalidated, and couldn't believe that he hadn't said sorry for his nastiness when all I wanted was to explain to him how hurtful I found his immediate dismissiveness. His reaction was to say: " Well why don't you break up with me then if you feel that way".IDK their financial set up or relationship, but I woulda immediately obliged him on this without further comment. His son will often just not reply to me if I say hello, and just this weekend, stole my seat as soon as I got up to go to the bathroom (my book and drink were there), sat himself next to my SO, and when I returned and stood next to him, to prompt him to move, didn't move.

When I asked my SO why he didn't ask his kid to move, he replied "I didn't notice". He didnt notice her standing right next to him? This dude knows kid denying wrong-doing is a lie nonetheless. But that taking the seat, the whole thing is so juvenile, and if kid wants to show he trumps her, and parent is purposely blind to it, I'd trump myself right out the fucking door. You do some of this hand-wringing when younger about relationships but at 42 and the dude talking to her like this, out the door, I'm not a 2nd class citizen in my own home or even while visiting BF. These guilty divorced dads, and fun dads are so frustrating even to read about, cant imagine living w/ one, or dating one. That's what most stepparents say, they are no longer attracted to SO watching them be terrible parents and Disney Dads. The stepdads complain about the bio Moos too. Don't know how kids will ever grow up since so many parents literally look for excuses not to reprimand wrong-doing.

Never ever date a breeder.
When a woman has kids she doesn't want to shut her husband up (no replies)

This is from like seven years ago, but I just read about it now.

The guy comes out and says his wife never had an urge to breed, but she did for him because he wanted to be a father. Now he's surprised his wife is very cold and distant toward their kids. I mean, I don't know why she didn't leave if she really didn't want to be a mother, and now these kids are growing up wondering why Mommy doesn't care about them.

She definitely sounds very checked out of the whole parenting bullshit. I wonder if he pressured her for brats more than he lets on because I feel like someone who shows this level of disconnect from her brats is not someone who doesn't care either way if she breeds.

Not sure what would be the best course of action since nothing is going to make her love these brats. Probably at least living separately so they aren't constantly trying to get her attention just because she exists. Maybe this was her plan all along - give the husband kids to shut him up, and then let him and a nanny deal with them.

Some people in the comments suggest PPD, but that doesn't last for seven years. She just plain doesn't want to be a mother. And this is why you don't have kids you don't want, nor do you pressure an unwilling person to have kids. I blame the Duh for this. He could have left her for someone who was absolutely gung-ho to breed. Instead, his kids are going to be living in therapy trying to figure out why their mother doesn't love them. He can love them all he wants, it won't change the fact the kids understand their mother doesn't want them. That shit hurts a lot and it's going to mess them up very badly.

https://www.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/comments/al0mj1/my_wife_32_dislikes_our_children_5m_7f/

Quote

My wife (32) and I (30M) both use reddit, so throwaway, and I'm changing some of the details. Wife, if you still recognize this as being about you, know that I'm just doing this because I'm confused and need outside perspective. I love you.

My wife never really had an urge to have children - I did. She knew it was important to me to have children of my own, and I think because of that, she agreed to have kids. It's not that she was outrightly opposed to it - in her words "I could do with or without". So, naturally, a couple of years after marriage, we had children.

Now, ever since our daughter was born, my wife has had a very... hands off approach to raising and caring for the kids. Almost everything from changing their diaper, to feeding them, to playing with them, to teaching them about right from wrong, to cleaning after them, have either been done by me, or by our nanny (when I'm away due to work).

I work as a freelance health and safety inspector for commercial buildings and nursing homes, stuff like that. Just to make sure they comply with legislation and laws, and advise how they can better change. Because of this, I have a lot of time at home, compiling reports, so I have a lot of time with the children. My wife is a writer, and also works from home, and writes almost every day. Despite this, she barely lifts a finger to care for the children, or even interact with them.

I remember so many instances where she has outrightly avoided contact with the children. One such instance was when Daughter was about 3 or 4, and she walked up to Wife and handed her a toy and smiled at her. Wife looked down at the toy, didn't make eye contact with Daughter, got up and walked away.

She doesn't even ask if the kids are okay, or fed, or in bed, or anything. When the nanny is round and she is looking for direction or advice, she always phones me, because wife tells her that she's busy...

So this went on for years. Which I don't mind much, because I love the kids, and I love taking care of them. But then when Daughter reached the age of 5, I remember the discussion which pretty much changed everything between us.

Daughter was eating at the table, and we were talking about some stuff (school stuff, I think). Then she starts telling me about how her friend's mum is really funny, and she always jokes around with them when she picks her up. Then she asks Wife, "Why do you never pick me up from school?"

Wife said that she was busy.

And daughter says "all the time?"

Then wife said 'yes', got up and left the room.

After taking care of the kids and putting them to bed, I cracked open a bottle of wine and talked to my wife. I told her all the above, and told her I was fine if she didn't want to take care of the children, but she had to at least show her love. Then she said that she never really felt like she loved them in the first place.

This was a blow for me. We talked more about this, and she basically said that she never really felt connected to them, and that they were more of just lodgers here than anything else.

This was all surprisingly calm of her. You must understand that my wife isn't an unemotional person, nor is she a bitch. She's a very funny, interesting person, who has shown a lot of care and love for me and her family.

So I said we should go to counselling, which she agreed to. We went as a couple. This went on for months, and the counselor was really really good. We learned a lot about each other. The one thing which really struck me though, was my wife's "realisation" that she "dislikes" the children.

She didn't that she couldn't bear to be around them, but she said she didn't feel any affection for them.

It seems this won't change.

So...... what do I do? She still brings in money, is still loving to me, doesn't harm the kids (unless you count a large degree of apathy as harm). (Yes it is harm because their parents are supposed to love them and she treats them like pests. It's not physically harmful, but mark my words, it's fucking the kids up mentally."

Should I just move forward, knowing that she doesn't like the children?

I still love everyone. Maybe that's enough.

Hmmmm.

?

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention about the kids and their well being. Since we started going counselling, I have also made sure to pay special attention to how the kids are doing due to the disconnect with their Mother. It's a bit sad, but it seems they understand that maybe Mum is just "that type of person".

I remember telling them that it's sad, but not everyone in the world is going to be their friend, but I'll be their best friend, if they'll have me. And my daughter liked that.

My son, however, didn't understand, and just said he would give Mum ice cream to make her a friend. Cute. (No it's not "cute." Your kid is trying to buy his mum's affection. Fuck you.)

Especially for men, because many are just hands-off, or hands-off during the week, and still they are good dads for taking them to little league on Sat. They aint regretting a thing because the wifey does the grunt work. I've seen it too often at work.

https://www.cbc.ca/radio/thecurrent/regretful-parents-1.746420s

For some, regret is part of parenting. They want prospective parents to hear their stories
Parents are sharing stories to help others understand the range of emotions that comes with having kids

Abby Hughes · CBC Radio · Posted: Feb 25, 2025 3:00 AM CST | Last Updated: February 25, 2025

For some parents, feelings of love for their kids are accompanied by negative ones like regret. Parents and researchers say both feelings can coexist.

Why some parents are admitting regrets about having kids
Growing up, Tanya Ryan was on the fence about having kids. She felt like she could be happy either way, whether she prioritized a family or her freedom.

But the mom of two from Calgary says the choice became clear when she met her husband. He had always wanted to be a father and kids were a non-negotiable for him.

"I was like, well, you want kids and I want you. So I guess that takes my 50 per cent and topples it over the fence," Ryan told The Current's Matt Galloway.

It's a decision she was OK with at the time. Plus, any doubts Ryan had about parenting were swept under the rug by friends and family, who assured her she'd be an amazing mom.

"The first time you see that baby … all those natural instincts, they just click in," Ryan remembers hearing from loved ones at the time.

But as early as during her pregnancy, Ryan says she wondered if she'd made the right choice. She says parenting has come with a lot of emotions: intense feelings of love, anxiety, compassion — and also regret.

And Ryan isn't alone. She's one of a growing number of parents sharing their complex feelings about parenting in an effort to have a more honest conversation about what the job really entails in a society that presses people to have kids.

What parental regret feels like
Kelley Daring heard all of the same cliches Ryan did about how parenting is the most rewarding job out there. But since she was in her early teens, Daring says she's seen more stress and tiredness on parents' faces than she has fulfilment or joy.

As a result, Daring — who has three stepdaughters — chose not to have kids of her own. She shares stories on TikTok that parents write to her anonymously about their feelings of regret.

Kelley Daring is a TikToker and hosts the podcast Call Her Daring. On her platforms, she discusses women's experiences in various aspects of life, including often-overlooked parts of parenting including regret.

Daring says most of the parents who write to her — especially moms — describe feeling like they've lost their own identity and bodily autonomy. Any opportunities to advance in their careers, travel or even simply take part in the hobbies they once enjoyed seem to disappear completely after having kids, the parents report.

"They didn't realize how much motherhood would take from them, how they would no longer be just a woman or just themselves," Daring said, who lives in Sacramento, California. "They are now a mother. And that's the most important thing that they are."

Many parents also tell her their regret has nothing to do with how much they love their kids, or the lengths they'll go to for them. "It's not the children … it's the work of mothering that they regret," Daring said. "That is an important distinction."

Anyone who says they enjoy every moment of motherhood is flat-out lying

We asked parents what causes them the most stress. There was ... a lot

Ryan understands that duality well. She doesn't lack any love for her kids — in fact, she says she remembers looking at her firstborn in the crib one day and realizing that she'd never be able to make a decision again without first considering him. Just how intensely she cared about her kids — to the point that she felt almost unable to focus on anything except them — came as a shock to her.

"All of my energy and effort went into making sure that this baby was OK, even if I wanted to go do something I used to do," Ryan said.

What the research shows
While there isn't a large body of research on this topic, a 2021 study from Poland measured regret by asking parents whether or not they would reverse the decision to have kids if they could. It found that between 10 and 14 per cent of respondents in that country did regret having kids. A 2013 poll by Gallup asking a similar question of American respondents put the figure at seven per cent.

The Polish study also found that those who don't strongly identify with the role of parent tend to experience more regret due to the shift in identity that parenthood demands. Demographic factors, like having a lower income or being a single parent, also increased stress on parents and the likelihood of parental regret.

We can have complex feelings and all of them can coexist inside of our brains or our hearts. And it doesn't mean that we're bad people
- Miguel Macias, parent familiar with regret
Jean-Michel Robichaud, a clinical psychologist and professor at the Université de Moncton who specializes in parent-child relationships, says regret comes up fairly frequently in his practice.

The feelings are often accompanied by shame and guilt, he says, and it's not uncommon for tears to flow when regret first comes up with a patient.

Robichaud says the number of people who experience regret proves to him that Daring is right — people do a pretty bad job of telling one another just how frustrating and complicated parenting can be.

For parents familiar with these feelings, he says talking about it with a trusted confidante can be a big help. A close friend or family member can fill that role in most cases, though therapy could be a good idea for any parents with a history of mental illness, such as depression.

"Giving a good ear is like giving energy, giving hope, giving relief," Robichaud said. "In turn it alleviates part of the burden and it creates more room for them to be [a] better version of their parenting self."

Jean-Michel Robichaud is a clinical psychologist and a professor. He says regret should be discussed with a trusted family member, friend or therapist in order to help ease the burden of those feelings.

Impact on kids
In addition to helping parents and adults who are on the fence, Daring says she hopes her series can prevent kids of regretful parents from feeling unwanted.

Some adult children of regretful parents have also shared their stories with Daring, she says. They often tell her about being "parentified" — a term used to describe when kids are given adult responsibilities and forced to grow up too fast — as well as feeling abandoned or unwanted at home.

Modern parenting is so stressful that the U.S. issued a health advisory. Parents say it's overdue(emphasis mine-cfuter)

Daring says regret is a word people should use carefully as kids could be hurt in the process, either immediately or later when they find these discussions online. But, she says hearing from people who felt unloved growing up has made her all the more certain that it's critical to discuss parental regret openly. That's because frank conversations about it could help people either to have more realistic expectations of parenthood going in, or to decide ahead of time the job is just not for them.

Miguel Macias, a journalist in Spain, has written about his own unexpected feelings of parental regret for the New York Times. He says regret is a "dangerous" feeling — but adds it's better to come to terms with it than deny its existence.

"We can have complex feelings and all of them can coexist inside of our brains or our hearts. And it doesn't mean that we're bad people," Macias told Galloway.

Like Ryan, Macias says he adores his two-year-old daughter and is completely dedicated to being a dad. But it's those times when she won't sit still for him to change her, causing tension between him and his partner and making him late for work, that the negative feelings can be overwhelming.

If Macias's daughter ever finds his opinion article when she grows up, he says he's confident she will not feel unwanted. He knows he showers her with the love and affection she deserves daily.

"I feel confident that by the time she reads these, she will have been loved by me so much … and I would have taught her about the complexity of feelings," Macias said. "I hope that she will understand that … this is not as simple as, you know, regretting or not regretting."

In Calgary, Tanya Ryan says she really hopes that having this conversation never comes back to hurt her kids. "That would break my heart."

But she also thinks it's important to help complete the narrative around having kids for people like her who only ever heard one overwhelmingly positive story about motherhood. Given her experience, she wants prospective parents to know that being 50 per cent on board with parenting "is not enough."

"Not even 80 per cent is enough. You have to be 100 per cent sure that that is what you want to do," Ryan said. "And it's not necessarily going to be that you just look in your baby's eyes and everything shifts and the world changes around you, because that's not everybody's experience."

Society made it seem like you would be miserable and missing out and an outcast if you didn't have a child.

Anyways, I watch those videos with such jealousy I can feel it in my bones
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can read the comments here, that agree w/ her.

https://www.reddit.com/r/regretfulparents/comments/1uwi9ae/why_couldnt_the_childless_movement_have_happened/

Hey, guys we were always here on the Bratz Board!!!!! Ya shoulda joined us when you could. In fact the movement was around, and people made fun of us for "needing a movement", for "needing a label" bcz they think being CF is just 'not having kids, what do they need support from?" "why is everyone a victim?" Well, a-holes, decades of the same insults and badgering, we needed an outlet, and recognition that it was a real legit thought-process and way of life, identify away from the sheep who just thought, hey they are some kinda oddballs, um, noooo, Breeding sucks, we realize it, and youre still fooling yourselves, or maybe you really like it but it is ok for people to live differently, and make their own choices.

Moo hires pet sitting service to watch seven-year-old (3 replies)

No, it wasn't a case of blatant stupidity/misunderstanding. Moo intentionally borrowed a dog and gave it a fake name to fool the sitter into thinking it was a legitimate job, then when said sitter shows up for the job, she finds a seven-year-old demanding breakfast. And when the sitter attempted to call the parents, they most likely intentionally ignored the calls because they knew they fucked up.

The assumption from the author is that Mommy and Daddy were too cheap to get a human sitter. CPS was called and the breeders threatened to sue the sitting service for breach of contract and for the cost of their vacation. Because I'm SURE a judge would favorably look upon people who abandoned their first grader home alone for two weeks with only an adult expected to check in on them and not be there 24/7. And I'm certain if the kid got hurt or died during those two weeks, the parents would try to sue.

The kicker is the author said in the comments the parents seemed well-off and could absolutely afford a sitter/nanny. They just didn't care enough about their child to get one.

https://www.reddit.com/r/entitledparents/comments/l2u2ak/were_a_pet_sitting_service_lady/

Quote

Ok, buckle up, this is a doozy!

I work for a pet/house sitting company and had a new client on my schedule for three visits a day for two weeks to take care of a dog.

When I get to the house and go in I see a kid and thought they must be running late leaving and didn't let us know, so I said hi to the kid and said it's ok don't be scared, then called out for the parents.

The kid said they're gone. I asked what do you mean? The kid then said I needed to hurry up and make her breakfast and take her to school. I asked again, what do you mean, where are your parents? She said they're gone on their trip and again told me to hurry up cause she's hungry. I asked how old she is, she said seven.

I asked they left you here alone? She said yeah, her mom told her we'd be by in the morning to make her breakfast and take her to school, in the afternoon to pick her up from school and make her a snack, and at night to make her supper. I asked where's Macy (made up name) the dog? She said they don't have a dog. I said when the owner came for the client meeting and to get the house keys she met a dog. The kid said her mom borrowed the neighbors dog.

OMG. I called the company owner and told her what was going on, of course she was flabbergasted and came over immediately. She tried to get ahold of the kids parents but they weren't answering their phones so she called CPS and explained everything when they got there. CPS took the kid, the parents info, and left.

The next day the kid's mom called the owner and left a rambling message, screaming about how could we turn her kid in to CPS and we broke the contract so they were going to sue her for that and also for the cost of their ruined vacation. The owner called them back and told them our agreement was to take care of a dog not a kid, and that was illegal anyway, and also borrowing a dog for her to meet for the client meeting was deliberate misrepresentation, so good luck with a lawsuit.

She hasn't heard from them since. I guess our pet sitting service was cheaper than hiring someone to watch the child properly. We still can't understand how this woman thought this would actually work.

A seven year old awtard managed to take off to a few houses down from home and saw a pool with "filtration issues" in the neighbors yard and decided "that looks attractive let's swim" and jumped in. The pool has a false bottom also. The owners checked the pool, but had no idea due to the fact that the body was at the bottom in unclear water. They happened to go outside again and he floated up and they called 911. The homeowners had a metal high fence around it and the door going in was closed. They investigated and the owners had to show that they are "working on the filtration issue"

One could tell people are trying to lay blame on the owners if they can and they are probably worrying about getting sued regardless.
Children killing their parents is fastest growing homicide in US (2 replies)

https://timesofmalta.com/article/children-killing-their-parents-is-fastest-growing-homicide-in-us.725179

Children killing their parents is fastest growing homicide in US

With an increasing breakdown of family structure – and Malta is not immune to this social fragmentation – there is a risk of one parent alienating their children against the second parent. Mario Garrett reports After an anonymous elder abuse report,

With an increasing breakdown of family structure – and Malta is not immune to this social fragmentation – there is a risk of one parent alienating their children against the second parent. Mario Garrett reports

After an anonymous elder abuse report, a city team investigates. Accompanying this team while making their rounds it is common that once we get there we are told by the victim that they do not want to bring any charges against the abuser. It happens often.

Sometimes the team has to make sure that the older person is competent enough to make that determination. In most cases we just move on and keep the file open. Professionals understand this resistance.

Most abuse is carried out by family members, usually a son or a daughter. These abusers have problems of their own, whether it is money troubles, alcohol, drugs, relationships or simply psychiatric issues.

Understanding the resistance to report abuse is psychological. Imagine if someone you loved and cared for is causing you pain. Reporting them would then suggest two things: one, that you were a bad parent and, two, that you are a bad person for attracting such abuse. Both admissions are negative and reflect badly on you, the victim. One thing you do not need at this time is more negative news. However valid this assessment, it is shortsighted.

There are a lot of cases where a child bludgeons their older parent to death. The fault with professionals is that we see the early inception of these cases months and sometimes years earlier. Every time a victim refuses to bring charges, this scenario plays in my mind.

The hostility adolescent children feel towards us is not new and will never be overcome. As parents, we understand this rebellion as a stage in our children’s development. We see our animosity with our own parents, and it is normal.

his hostility provides our children with that feeling of detachment necessary for them to develop a healthy separation to differentiate themselves as unique beings. Such feelings are nothing new. The surprise being the existence of websites devoted to killing one’s parents, with instructions. And what is more surprising are the emerging statistics about children killing ageing parents.

For more than two decades, Kathleen Heide from the University of South Florida has been conducting analysis of homicides where children kill their parents. In the US, five children kill their biological parents every week. Matricide – killing your mother – and patricide – killing your father – are both very rare events and constitute about one in every 100 homicides in the US. But we have a lot of homicides in the US.

In a 2011 report from the Department of Justice, Alexia Cooper and Erica Smith reported a change in trend of family homicide. The most common were homicide by a spouse or ex-spouse, which is declining from half of all family homicides in 1980 to just over a third in 2008.

Children killed by their parents were the second most frequent type of family homicide. This is also seeing an increase, from one in seven family homicides in 1980 to one in four by 2008. But the fastest growing homicide is parents killed by one of their children.

This type of homicide has been increasing steadily from one for every 10 family homicides in 1980 to one in every eight in 2008. Children killing their parents is the fastest growing type of family homicide. In the latest federal statistics, both matricide and patricide are committed primarily by sons aged between 16 and 19.

In 1993 Clifford J. Linedecker wrote a book on Killer Kids, where he reports that there were over a million assaults in the US by children on their parents, some of which were fatal. He documents some of the most horrific cases.

Younger killers mostly use their parents’ guns, while others use knives, axes and any available weapon. The younger killers are more likely to use their parents’ gun. Not surprisingly since in the US we have 390 million guns and more than half of all homicides are gun-related. Gun ownership means that you and your family are more likely to die by shooting.

Since patricide is most frequent (nearly twice as likely as matricide), increasingly there might be contributing factors. With increasing breakdown of family structure – and Malta is not immune to this social fragmentation, although it has the lowest divorce rate in Europe – there is a risk of one parent alienating their children against the second parent.

Parental alienation is on the increase and might be a contributing factor for children killing their fathers. Very often, the father (rather than the mother) becomes portrayed as the reason for all the negative emotions. Parental alienation does not start or end with divorce.

The British and Canadian researchers Amanda Holt and Phillip Shon argue that there are broader considerations to these murders. And they are right. Although Malta is not there yet, the signs are that the community is slowly disintegrating.

Older people being mobbed in Sliema as they walk home from church (Times of Malta, May 19) is a call to arms. Andrew Azzopardi and Marilyn Clark, with the Faculty for Social Well-being, have started to document this breakdown. They report that one in six Maltese had no friends to call or cannot call them in times of need.

With an ombudsman system that seems fragmented and at worse ineffective, elder abuse will continue to worsen as incidents will remain hidden until fatalities develop.

Scientist trying to make women menstruate four times a year to broaden fertility window (no replies)

https://www.radio47.fm/health/what-if-you-only-got-your-periods-every-three-months-hongmei-wang-the-biologist-investigating-how-to-extend-fertility-in-women-28603/

On one hand, this is obviously going to lead to trouble because it could mean women could get pregnant in their 70s, 80s and beyond. That can't possibly be healthy for women that age. On the other hand, putting off menopause until the natural end of their lives sounds quite nice. But whatever this guy is concocting is probably only available for breeding purposes and not quality of life purposes for skipping menopause misery.

At least they recognize there are risks associated with decreased estrogen from doing this.

Quote

Chinese biologist Hongmei Wang pushed one of the most controversial questions in reproductive science into the spotlight: can the human menstrual cycle be slowed down, perhaps to once every three months, and by doing so, extend a woman’s fertile years? The idea has sparked debate worldwide, blending hard science with deep ethical, biological and societal questions.

Wang works at the State Key Laboratory of Stem Cell and Reproductive Biology in Beijing, an institution historically linked to family planning research but now focused on understanding human fertility at its most fundamental levels. Her work comes at a time when China, like many nations, is facing a sharp decline in birth rates and an aging population, pressures that have made fertility extension a hot topic in scientific and policy circles.

At the heart of Wang’s research is a simple but provocative question: if the female body could experience fewer menstrual cycles over a lifetime, could this slow down the depletion of eggs? Unlike men, who produce sperm throughout life, women are born with a fixed reserve of oocytes (eggs), and that reserve declines with each cycle until menopause.

By reducing the number of cycles, from roughly a dozen per year to only four, Wang hypothesizes there might be a way to preserve that reserve and delay the onset of reproductive aging.

There’s some early evidence to suggest this line of thinking isn’t purely speculative. Wang and her team have made significant strides in related stem-cell work, including experiments in which human stem cells were implanted into the ovaries of sterile monkeys, resulting in a healthy baby monkey, a result the scientist cites with pride.

A small human trial with 63 women suffering premature ovarian failure also showed that stem cell transplants helped four participants conceive healthy children. These results, while encouraging, come with huge caveats and do not by themselves demonstrate that menstrual slowing would extend fertility.

Despite the enthusiasm, Wang doesn’t hide the uncertainties. The biological mechanisms governing ovulation, hormone production and ovarian aging are deeply complex. Her own work in animal models, like mice, suggests manipulating cycles might be possible, but carries potential risks.

Suppressing ovulation, a key part of reducing frequency, also suppresses estrogen production, a hormone essential not only for reproduction but for overall health. Long-term reduction of estrogen could lead to other health issues, including bone density loss and cardiovascular effects, and these consequences are not fully understood.

The scientific community also faces practical and ethical barriers. For centuries, research into human embryonic development, from fertilization to early growth stages, has been limited by both technical challenges and legal restrictions.

Most countries restrict laboratory studies of human embryos beyond the first 14 days, precisely the window when key developmental processes unfold. Wang and collaborators are working around these limits with embryonic models made from stem cells, but even these approaches raise questions about how far science should push.

Public reaction to the work has been mixed. Some see potential societal benefits, especially in an era where many women delay childbearing for education or career goals and face narrowing fertility windows.

Others, including scientists not involved in the study, caution that menstrual frequency and fertility lifespan aren’t as directly linked as the theory suggests, noting that the biology of ovarian aging involves more than just the number of cycles. There are also cultural and personal dimensions, not everyone would want to alter such a deeply natural process even if it were possible.

At the moment, Wang’s ideas remain at the frontier of reproductive biology rather than established clinical practice. What’s clear is that understanding how the reproductive system ages, and whether that aging can be slowed or altered, remains one of the most intriguing and contentious questions facing science today. Whether menstrual cycles can ever safely occur only four times a year, and whether that would translate into prolonged fertility, is a question still very much to be answered.

Why do young adults want to spend SO much time w/ their parents? (no replies)

I certainly dont get it. My friends and I weren't like this whatsoever. My SILs were kinda like that but they were spoiled lil princesses, got a lot of stuff bought for them, and 1 of them basically had no friends. Look below, who wants to hang w/ mom and day everywhere they go? Why can't mom and dad ask for some private time?

From Stepparents subreddit:

How to escape on the weekends, ideas?

I have decided I’m leaving on the weekends. I’ve had enough. My SK, 23 years old, making 65k per year lives with us full time. I can’t take it anymore. She’s up our asses on the weekends. All day Friday, Saturday and Sunday. From morning to nighttime. She never leaves our sides. Movies, dinners, pool, sitting on the couch, tv shows, etc. she won’t leave.

I’m over it. I told my husband she has until Summer 2027 to move out or I’m leaving. He told me to stop threatening him.

I can’t fully rest on the weekends from my job bc I feel like I am stuck entertaining her and p putting a mask on (I’m diagnosed asd-1) All I want is to be left the hell alone. I require a lot of alone time to recover and I am getting none. I can’t take it anymore. I am going to start leaving every weekend. I’ve had enough.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The comments go on from her how Dad wont look for an apt for her...again, isnt that something you do for yourself, or w/ your friends? Comments tell her, to take a bath, and lay naked in the bedroom watching TV for some 'me time', and def say this is a do not disturb time. Imagine the lengths you have to go to shake an adult kid??!

Heres more from the same subreddit:

SD thinks she’s the reason I’m with her dad
Win!
Today is my anniversary. My partner and I have been together for 8 amazing years.

My SD16 had a half day today for finals and came home while I was showering, so of course she had to come in and ask me where I was going. I told her that her dad and I were going to lunch, she asked if she could go with us and I told her no, that she couldn’t go because it was OUR anniversary. She said she should be allowed to go because she was the only reason that I was with her dad.

Oh honey, I’m so happy that you feel so incredibly loved that you think YOU are the reason I am with this man when in fact, you were the only reason I almost wasn’t-my only other long term relationship was with a man who had a child and I swore I would never do it again.

Anyways, the three of us are now on our way to go out to lunch!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again, Im a teen, I got a half day either to hang w/ friends, chill, or study for another final at my own pace, and dad and mom aint gonna be home, perfect time to be a kid! Not these kids, they want a restaurant meal, and hand w/ adults instead of their friends having fun w/o parents. The last couple decades have bred weird children in my mind. A commentor on the above said, giving in doesnt help remind her she's not the center of the universe and shouldnt b on their date. Show her attention at home since she's a teen that likes being w/ adults, but she should not be on your planned date.

But it goes to show, from a stepparents POV, you can know your stepkids for a decade, they can no longer even be annoying lil kids or teens, you just dont like being w/ them, and as adults SHOULD grow apart for your parents, and the parents finally need adult time too. And, now you have to give ultimatums and find hide outs to avoid them. TBH, I'd just go to the gym, and get real buff in the meantime, hoping you get no tagalongs--hopefully the adult kid is too lazy to work out. Or, tell the hub you want to spend the day at a fancy hotel, they have them around by me w/ golfing, massages, ping pong, cards, whatever else and say you want romance in the room, a relaxing day alone w/ her man, one would hope hub/dad would go for that at least once a month.

Sorry about lack of formatting but the buttons have disappeared for me? Maybe they will come back.

Dove candies pile on the secret that kyds suck. (3 replies)

From CF reddit:

"You're eating this while hiding from your kids, aren't you?" - Dove

So, I had one of those chocolate Dove promises today, the ones that come with the "inspirational" quotes. And one of the quotes was "You're eating this whole hiding from your kid, aren't you?"

That means someone(s) at Dove thought there was a large enough population of people that would relate to trying to hide from their kids just to enjoy a piece of chocolate that they mass produced wrappers that say that.

I really don't understand how society works. They've convinced us that wanting to hide from your kids is normal while simultaneously convincing the majority of people that having kids is good and enjoyable.

https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/comments/1tywxh3/youre_eating_this_while_hiding_from_your_kids/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Secrets out, having kids suck so much they put it on candy wrappers.

Did your summers look like this? (6 replies)

I can’t take the not listening anymore

I hate summer break. We’re one week in and 9 weeks to go. At 9am this morning I started crying. Went to take a shower and locked the door so my 6 year old leaves me alone.

Y’all. He DOeS NOT LISTEN. Not to instructions, not to rules, to to me asking him to do a chore, clean up after himself …. Nothing.

Friday was his first official day of summer break. I took him to a trampoline park. Over the weekend we swam and had a bbq, he got to see his grandparents. Tuesday I took him to an aquarium. Wednesday I took him to a splash park. Today is Thursday and his ten month twin sisters have a dr appointment. I can’t take or do anything fun with him today.

We’re having renovations done to our back master bedroom and everyone’s schedules are thrown off. The workers are here for about ten hours, which is why I’ve been trying to do fun things out of the house.

I’m beat and over it.

My son acts up and frankly, doesn’t deserve all I do for him. He wants more, more, more. More play time, another park, another movie, another game. He’s never been good at independent play. For some reason he never goes to his dad. It’s always me. He’s with me 12 plus hours a day. I need space. He’s more work than my ten month old medical needs twins!!! That’s not even an exaggeration.

I’ve already played in his room today. We built some castle thing with his blocks and then did a party with his stuffed animals. It’s hard to find it “fun” when a baby is crying in the next room and my house is a mess. Laundry, dishes, clutter.

If I go to take a nap in another room, he follows me to wake me up. He HATES when I nap. What he doesn’t see is I was woken up four times last night by one of the twins. Other nights I’m up 7 times. I think I get 3 hours max a night consecutive of sleep.

And so I’m snapping. I’ve cussed at him. Been overly rude. “Why can’t you leave me alone!?” My parents would have already lost patience and slapped me out of pure frustration. He’s bringing out the worst in me. I’m negative. Impatient. Regretting this life.

Are children meant to completely break you?? This feels like a torture tactic.

Will he ever leave me alone ??

EDIT: He’s going to a summer reading program for the entire month of June. From 8am - 12. I’m hoping that helps with his boredom. He’s also going to a one week camp at the zoo in mid July. In the inbetween weeks I’m trying to set up play dates with other moms and their children. I thought about signing him up for karate during the week, but honestly, it feels like another reward for his awful behavior. Money I’m spending, and I’d be the one loading the twins up and driving him around.

https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingmom/comments/1tq8dkt/i_cant_take_the_not_listening_anymore/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do these moos, and it's basically all of them mind you, make themselves a cruise director for the summer? My summers were outside playing w/ kids on the block or by myself as an only child, otherwise my neighbors played w/ their sibs. Why can't today's moos have (and teach) their offspring how to play independently and hopefully somewhat quietly? Did any of you have an event outing every single day of the week? Or anything? As an older teen, I recall some of the young moms sunning themselves everyday while kids played in sprinklers and kiddie pools, that's it.

I think being CF is becoming more popular becz the Breeders have made it 24/7 hands on instead of just 'go out and play', so either birth rate is gonna continue to go down, or the pendulum will finally swing back to free range childhoods(and maybe parents getting stricter so their kids know how to act from a young age, on their own, so not to create havoc or kill themselves while out and about)

Even a moo on one of these Reddits said my mom didnt have me around for 10 hrs of the day, she had it so much better than me as a parent. Well, learn from that. How do these likely educated women not know how to control your day? Sure I'm not a parent, but it is obvious they LET their kids do all this, and rule the roost. Lead the day as the adult, and if they dont follow, put in consequences every time. And, dont have a 2nd or 3rd kid for heaven's sake!

Reading these subreddits is so entertaining I just cant stop. Sounds soooo worth it.

Kids are never happy. (no replies)

https://www.reddit.com/r/breakingmom/comments/1tr2mfx/its_the_last_day_of_school/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

And my son, who has exhibited mild school refusal *all year* is suddenly very sad ("heartbroken" in his words) about school ending. He will likely be crying when I pick him up (he has cried all but one year upon picking him up on the last day of school)

He also decided that he "hates the beach". Y'all, I have booked a very expensive beach heavy vacation later next month. We live far far far away from beaches so he has never actually been to a proper beach. Up until recently he's been all about how he's never been on a beach why haven't we gone to a beach? FML

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Again Sucks to be Moo.

Thing is these parents take everything too serious. Give him encouraging words and after that ignore him. And, kids dont pick vacations, my parents and any others back in the day wouldnt give 2 seconds of thought. Modern moos brings so much stress on themselves.

Or they like changing a HUGE poopy diaper of a five year old?

Parenting literally is getting more ridiculously lame than ever. Why have kids if you do nothing to guide, lead, teach them? Imagine being a teacher and having to potty train a quarter of your class on school time? This is truly insanity.

It is usually other cf women who come out and support them, crossovers from reddit/cf probably. Yet when the feminsist moos are not feeling the divine empowerment from not being honored by society for boobfeeding in an airport waitingroom then we all need to work to change that as they ignore us. Ugh
