There was a blog a while back about someone who referred to her pets (guinea pigs? I think?) as her "twins" while at work, and used them to get time off, changed work schedule, etc. at work. I'm not sure how long she pulled it off, but if she could manage it with guinea pigs, you probably could with a couple of photos.
