Google Forcing Me to Switch to Bing! Damn "Safe for the Fambly" B*******T!

Have y'all heard about the change to Google image search? Safe Search is now permanently locked to on. Yep. No more surfing for images of porn. Of course, Google says you can still see the images but you have to be more specific.

It used to be that I could type "Shay Laren" (one of my favorite skin models), with safe search off, and all I would get would be nude pictures. Not anymore! She's bikini clad now. Even typing "Shay Laren Nude" gave me tons of pictures of her in a bikini! So much for being more specific.

Google says this is to bring the search engine up to current search standards worldwide. Google's official statement is: "We are not censoring any adult content, and want to show users exactly what they are looking for -- but we aim not to show sexually-explicit results unless a user is specifically searching for them. We use algorithms to select the most relevant results for a given query. If you're looking for adult content, you can find it without having to change the default setting -- you just may need to be more explicit in your query if your search terms are potentially ambiguous. The image search settings now work the same way as in web search."

Smells like a "let's make the internet safe for children" ploy to me.

This reminds me of a discussion I had with my husband when we were CD shopping earlier tonight. he picked out two Eminem CDs and I stopped to look for parental advisory labels. I will not allow edited music into my home. If Google wants to keep things safe for nonexistent children that is fine by me. I simply stop using their services. I also change my email, photo sharing service and home screen. If I can avoid using Google for anything I will.

Is this an already in place thing? Because I just typed in "tentacle" and got a buttload of....well you know O:

altavista.com you have to turn off safe search and click your an adult but then you can get videos and images. It's a division of yahoo. Most family safe searches filter medical content specifically reproductive searches. Doing searches for answers to con ed questions can be a royal pain.

I had to try that. I did get a few hentai pictures, but not nearly as many as I did a few weeks ago (okay, guilty pleasure!). But some did slip through without having to add any additional words. Google isn't as smart as it thinks it is!

I've been following this story the past 24 hours and apparently there is a huge backlash from Google users. If they're smart, they'll switch back now. The old safe guard and administrator lock worked about as well as any of them do. If a kid wants to find porn, he will find porn, especially if he has an iPad. It's us old geezers who are having the issues.

Not a much of a porn user, but I'm of the opinion that if those searching don't want nudie pix, then they turn on the safe search filter.

If they're worried about teh kiddies, that's not their job. Parents can go get Net Nanny or some other software to suit their famblee's net useage needs. Really little kids shouldn't be using the net anyway. Elementary kids might need to log into sites for homework and such...and that's where net nanny comes in. Same for older kids.

So.. We know that food and water are running out, with overpopulation and all... Yet people keep on poppin' out those babies! I guess they want to have their baby and eat it too...

My top reason is that parenting gives you a free license to be selfish based purely on the fact that you're being selfish for an emanation of your own self. The illusion that what you do to benefit your children benefits them solely is a fallacy. Every parent benefits from the benefits that their children receive. Henceforth, it gives one a license to perpetuate a dog-eat-dog mentality that I perceive to be amoral. Parents say that their children are their greatest loves, what they forget to add is that they are their ONLY loves and only because their children are a reflection of themselves. I prefer to be able to love multiple people and have lasting relationships of many types and possess the essential core value of empathy for all than to restrict myself to an echo chamber of ego-masturbation and self-serving chicanery.

In short: Not parenting makes you a better person.

I wonder why this came about? Did some moomy group go after Google with a safe Internet campaign? Or is Google going breeder pleaser to get more money?

Either way it sounds like they're testing the waters. Can't get rid of the porn, but by golly they'll go after how you can look for it.

I'm keeping an eye on this. If Google is going to start kissing breeder ass, I'm taking my email elsewhere.

Don't want to sound like a truther, but that might be Google's way of attracting everyone to the elephant in the room and then doing sneaky stuff while we're gawking. It's a site that has been accused of censorship of other intellectual properties in the past. Anyway, whatever happened to the net nanny software that was supposed to make surfing safe for sprogs? This just sounds like yet another action taken because parents are too gawdamned lazy to take the initiative to raise their kids properly themselves.

Really Odd but this doesnt seem to have any effect on me. I tried searching through UK and US google (on UK, there is an option for strict moderate or off safe search, on the right of the result it defualts to moderate but you can change it with two clicks) On the US It seems to be on all the time, but as soon as you add nude to shay laren you get topless pictures, so I wonder if it is a technial thing.

It doesn't affect me either. But people here are for the most part utterly un-excitable when it comes to porn issues. If someone goes off on a rant about it, they simply receive a puzzled look and a reminder that they need not look.

I live in Slovenia. We have our problems though. We're currently in the process of booting our entire corrupt government.

Other than the current revolution-like behaviour regarding politics, people are generally sedate. Especially younger generations have the live and let live attitude, along with a strong aversion towards harassing others.
If you encounter a drunken and rowdy group at any time, they won't do anything to you because their friends will keep them in line.
