Hey Kid, Where’s Your Mom? Malls increase restrictions on unsupervised teens. :rolleyes2

Hey Kid, Where’s Your Mom? Malls Ratchet Up Restrictions on Unsupervised Teens

It's an obvious solution. Maybe if they behaved themselves, there would be no restrictions. That's why they can't have nice things.

And they cover St. Louis, which seems to be one of the areas that need the restrictions the most.
The mall near me has ID checkpoints set up inside all entrances and they ask anyone who looks young enough to need a handler for one. It's these teens running around in malls acting like asses that make things like this necessary! I worked at this mall years ago before this rule and roaming packs of teens were quite a problem.

FUCK! I know St. Louis... That city is pathetic and depressing, too many ghetto asses and trailer asses!!!
I think it's a great idea. Especially from a business point of view.

"Hmm, be a giant babysitting station for asshole teens, or keep them out so they paying customers will come back?"

St. Louis Outlet Mall? That new - ish? I seem to recall that was the North-something mall; been around since the 80s. I'd go over there during lunch, back when I worked at McDonnell-Douglas (now Boeing) just a few miles from there.

I'm surprised that something like that would exist east of the Missouri River. Since the 80s, population migration has been west - over to St. Charles. Talk about a freakin' snarl at rush hour, trying to cross the bridge. All the stuff east (you definitely didn't want to go around EAST ST. LOUIS. that was where all the murder victims got dumped) and north was being abandoned and was in a ripe state of decay, last time I passed through there. Glad I got out, in 1990.

Anyway .... those rules were instituted at our local mall a few years ago. 'Course, the parents howled that their little darlin's were being "discrimated against!" but it brought back the older shoppers; those who'd buy stuff at the mall, then have (a quiet) dinner at the nearby restaurants.
When I was a teenager, my friends and I would either walk (OMG!!) or take the bus (ZOMFG!!) to the mall every Saturday.

The worst thing that we did was huddle in the bus shelter and smoke. LOL! I am sure there were kids who shoplifted and stuff, but I went there with a large group of kids and we managed to not get in trouble.

I don't understand why today's kids are so bored that they can't go anywhere and behave. My friends and I were band & drama nerds. We could spend hours in the record store or Sam Ash. smiling smiley

I posted a story here probably a few weeks back about how a bunch of teens had a riot at a local mall on Saturday evening, and the mall was evacuated as a result. Fortunately, they have arrested and charged some of the teens who were involved. Later, it was discovered it was caused by a group of teens who wanted to take a huge group photo and share it on InstaGram.

When I was a kid, just going to the mall to "hang out" was not acceptable. If we were to go to the mall, we had to have a valid reason for going, i.e. shopping, to see a movie, etc. My parents also didn't allow us to just "go out." We had to have a reason why, what we were doing, who we were with, etc., and then they'd decide when we should be back home. Parents like mine were in the minority when I was growing up, but they are even more so now. Malls shouldn't have to do this, but because of poor parenting, they have no choice.

I've read elsewhere when malls implement something like this, business actually improves because the people who actually go to the mall to shop but didn't because of the unruly teens, start going back and actually buying things as opposed to just blocking the walkways and causing trouble. If our local malls started implementing something like that, I'd probably go back too.

Right you are, JohnDrake. There might be some flak for a while, but in the long run they will attract more customers because people will see that they're making an effort to keep the place pleasant and safe.

It's like the story on The Stained Apron about the restaurant that eliminated kiddie menus, high chairs, and all but one booster seat. The customers who'd been turned off by the influx of kids eventually came back, and told their friends, too.

I wasn't a "mall kid". It didn't appeal. That might have been because I worked at a gift wrap booth during holiday season, and that was more than enough mall for me. That job showed me how obnoxious mall customers could be. I remember my feet hurt like hell when I went home.

surgicalvetnurse: as for why you and your friends behaved...well, you were band and drama nerds. Band kids who stick with music for years tend to be better behaved, have more long-term goals, and are easier to deal with. Not sure why, but the correlation is there. And I realize I'm painting with a broad brush, here...there are band and theatre kids who are asses, too. But there you have it.

Security Guard Tazes Unruly Mom In Front Of Her Small Children

Darien Long, a security guard at Metro Mall in downtown Atlanta, deals with unruly patrons each day. Sometimes, they threaten him with violence.

Long regular records these encounters but one video, which was shot in May of last year, has recently gone viral. It is of Long tazering an unidentified woman who is seen in the video hurling foul language at him in front of her small children at Metro Mall.

It is not clear what exactly started the altercation but during the nearly five-minute video, the mother is clearly miffed at Long for addressing her children in what she considered to be a disrespectful tone.

“Security! Don’t yell at my mothf**king baby,” she yelled. “She not inside this raggedyass mall. So you not finna yell at her!” She continues, “You looking over there. But you hear what I’m saying to your pu*sy ass! Don’t muthaf**kin yell at them!”

Oh, it gets much worse.

Instead of leaving, the woman continues yelling obscenities at Long. She then encourages her young children to call the man “gay.” By this time, Long had retreated into the store he was guarding but the woman, her children and another unidentified woman accompanying her continued yelling at the guard. The children entered the store, after the guard ordered the mother to take them off the premises.

Instead of complying, she enters the store and physically confronts the guard. She can be seen throwing punches at him. The guard then took out his Tazer and fired at the mother. She hit the floor immediately. Her children stood near her crying hysterically. A man, who identified the children as “my babies,” expressed anger at Long for tasering the woman and threatened him.

“I’ll see you at six o’clock,” the man said numerous times.

In a recent interview with a local CBS affiliate in Atlanta, Long says that he video records the incidents so that he can help make the area a safer. “What you need to do is clean up the neighborhoods, so other businesses can come in and then downtown Atlanta can prosper,” he said.

The woman who was tazered was charged with criminal trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and simple battery.

Long has gotten online support from Crowdtilt.com, where neary $20,000 has been raised to help support his crime-stopping efforts.

Well, speaking of unruly kids at the mall ......

I just got back from the mall in the city where I work. Didn't go to shop, just grab a bite at the food court (good Japanese food from a particular vendor). I sat at a table in the middle of the at-that-time quiet court and watched sourly as a gaggle of kids hung out around the entrance. They wrestled in the vestibule; banged in and out of the doors chasing one another; screeched, kicked and punched ... just generally made a nuisance of themselves. And where was security? Ohhhh, sitting at a table, within a few yards of the ruckus. The guy didn't look older than 20, himself, and was flirting with a bunch of teen girls. When I got up to leave, I approached the door and met a sneering bunch of twerps. I didn't hesitate, marching up to the door, where one kid lounged, gave him the Look of Death and said "MOVE". He was the first to drop his eyes; even opened the door for me and said 'scuse me ma'am' in a subdued voice. 'Course, there were giggles as I passed through, but I simply used the same commanding tone of voice as when I was working with my dogs; training them from puppies.

After I get off here, I'm going to fire off an e-mail to mall management. Damned twerp of a security guard was useless. I know he probably doesn't have much initiative, being paid squat to be a mall cop, but it is his job to corral those youngsters and boot them if they are causing trouble.
If the average moo was smart enough to put down the cell phone and actually PARENT their little snot miners these rules wouldn't be necessary. I'd love to show a bunch of idiot moos exactly what their widdle angels are like at the mall.

Moo can cry discrimination all they want to. I'll enjoy having a peaceful shopping mall for a change.

I just didn't understand the appeal of just hanging around a mall or anywhere else just doing nothing so even if my parents would have allowed it, I probably still wouldn't have done it. It looked kind of boring to me, and I had no desire to cause trouble as I was a kid who preferred to mind his own business. I also wasn't a band or drama nerd as I never went to a school that had a drama program and when I attended schools that had a music program, I never enrolled in it.

I haven't set foot in a mall, other than an anchor department store which I could enter through the outside without going into the mall itself, in years, and stuff that has already been mentioned in part of the reason why. The last time I went to a mall store was 2 years ago when I needed a new cell phone and the only place that had the free phone I wanted was in the mall. Other than that, I avoid malls like the plague.

Should've used a pistol.

Believe you me, if rent-a-cops and city-cops weren't scared out of their minds of multi-million dollar lawsuits and advocacy organizations every time they plugged a drug-addled welfare breeder, they'd hand out lead Darwin awards left right and center.

The police that work the north side of my city are practically itching to put some chlorine in the gene pool, but things are so legally screwy they have to have miniature cameras on their Trash-Zappers in case the oxygen waster sues them.
10,000 volts of "get right"!

This is from a guy's video blog about stupid people. This particular video explores the deep and complex relationship between stupid moos and the mighty taser. Once again, we see that in this eternal struggle of "bitching" vs "voltage", the taser triumphs over the loud-mouth every time.

Moo's kids are screaming and carrying on, and the security guard does his job by telling them to be quiet. Moo swoops in out of nowhere (btw, how the fuck do they do that?! It's like when the Cloverfield monster just appeared out of thin air! Nothing that big should be capable of being that quiet!), and proceeds to get in the man's face for yelling "at my muthafuckin' baybees!!!" This continues for a while, before finally the guards just says "fuck it" and tases this bitch. It's hilarious and oh-so-satisfying to watch her fall like a tree with her millions of brats screaming right behind her. The guy who runs the channel gives some pretty funny commentary on the situation. I don't know if the guard got fired, but I hope not, because I want to shake that man's hand and buy him a beer!

Bonus video!

Another video from the same guy, this one of two women getting into an argument on the bus. One is holding a baby and proceeds to, I'm not joking here, THROW THE BABY ACROSS THE AISLE into the hands of A COMPLETE STRANGER while she attacks the other chick. Moos are so loving and mature, aren't they?
Ah, did not see this thread before creating. My bad. blushing
I also have not been to a mall in many years....not even an anchor store. Malls in my area are actually dieing out. One is slated to be torn down to put up a strip mall (which is what was there before they built the mall 25 years ago)

I was in my 20's back in the 80's and I worked in a mall store..kind of in the center of the mall so I saw a lot of the action. I remember groups of teens hanging out back then but they were not unruly. Usually a bunch of girls showing off their latest styles, with huge soda cups intheeir hands, looking for boys. Worst I remember happening in the mall where I worked then were 2 girls in a catfight one day. It was rather comical actually.

Oh...I also worked in at charity gift wrap booth for the holidays ...more than once... and that sound echoed in my ears for a long time after that. Yelling, screeming (and not just the kids) Put me off malls .. that's for sure.
You have to check out this guy Nate's vlog. He does "employee evaluations" and his commentary is priceless. ("We get it bitch, your fertile. Now bitch you go ahead and find a new new hobby; one that doesn't involve as much semen." )
The link I've included is to his take on tasered moo. popcorn and jerry springer signjerry SO funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwbjTOch2ds Best parts 1:30 -1:50 & 2:48 -3:00
This is old news. Just looked up a story I remembered from some years ago: a mall out my way began restricting unescorted teens from roaming the place on weekends back in 1995. The li'l fucksticks have been a problem for just about 20 years now.
This is a good thing.

I live in Vegas and at least one local casino has a rule about unaccompanied minors being out past 7 at night.
