The Berlin photographer and being childfree

By now we've all seen the NY Times article about the Berlin photographer creating a project about childfree women and their reasons for not having sproggen. I went to the photographer's webpage for the project here and one of their childfree subjects told an interesting story. She was talented, skilled and accomplished yet couldn't find a job until she found a way to bring up her childfree status. Lo and behold, she found work quickly after that.

It tells us that companies don't want to hire women in their breeding years, because generous maternity benefits that companies are legally required to fund will hurt women collectively, unless they speak up. I'm not surprised

Germany is notoriously bad for that. If you can convince people that you're CF, you are fine - but so many CF women get the discrimination without any of the benefits. Obviously the best way to resolve this would be universal sabbaticals, but breeders get jealous when they don't get all these unearned privileges - and then like to call it sexism when nobody wants to hire them knowing that they are entitled to take extended medical leave for a self-inflicted situation.
