I've heard the "so then you can know what it's like!" and "lol you'll see what it's like dealing with a baby like you were!" and varieties of this from my mom all the time. That makes *no* sense. It's a bingo with no basis in reality. And it's really fucking creepy how obsessive people get over wanting grandchildren. I mean...wtf?
My mom used the "so you can know what it's like!" bingo on me recently. The "actually I plan on getting sterilized when I can afford it" response made her very unhappy. Seriously, mom, be happy for my life, not for the potential doings of my uterus. lame.

This is just another shining example of how parents don't want the best for us...they just want to look good in front of other breeders. It's all about them and what they want. This is beyond creepy. In most cases, it is actually less of a bingo and more of a hostile, malicious wish for a person to experience something noxious.

How many parents say to their daughters that they want them to experience hand-gliding, oil painting, salsa dancing, finishing a PhD, etc., with that same desperate, almost insane, tone?

What it boils down to is a desire to exact revenge on the object of what they consider a bad experience. A child (female, mostly) should NOT get away with not suffering the same drudgery

Plus the helicopter parenting of an adult child - yep that smacks of boredom all right.

So glad my parents had real lives, whatever else their shortcomings were.
