you might want to think about just starting a savings account for the kid, and deposit a little into it every year around christmas and the kid's birthday. that way, the kid will have something to look forward to when it's old enough to drive or go to college or whatever, and your sister won't be able to misappropriate it.
I really like this idea. Afterall, it's not the kid's fault it's being born. Also, if you want to be nice as you say, no one can criticize you for such a gift. ______________ - The human gene pool could use a little chlorine

A fine idea, but I'm not actually sure if I'm going to care about the kid or not. I don't know him and may or may not ever even meet him. My sister, on the other hand, I grew up with her. I'm not about to give her money though until I'm sure she's responsible enough that she'd actually benefit from it.
It's of course entirely up to you whether or not you wish to provide money for the baby. If you do, you can set up a trust for the child, perhaps an educational trust, where you are the desigated trustee. You can also choose at which age the child would be able to get any of the money. You can also put conditions on whether or not she would get the money. Or, you could create a savings account in your name for the benefit of the baby, whereby you are the only signatory on the account. ______________ - The human gene pool could use a little chlorine

personally, I wouldn't get her a damn thing. two cents ¢¢ CERTIFIED HOSEHEAD!!!
people (especially women) do not give ONE DAMN about what they inflict on children and I defy anyone to prove me wrong:

Mankind and its needs (wants) are like unto a black hole. It devours all available resources and it never is full: it merely grows larger and demands more.

All I got my pregnant sis were condoms, gigantic maxi pads, and a copy of Go the Fuck to Sleep.

I suggest a new shower head. Just don't waste money on an expensive one that massages, you have to get one that will get her clean. Also, does Plan B need a prescription? If it is OTC, I would get that too.

Oh and don't forget spermicide foam, Plan B, and maybe some bottles of bleach too.

If you're going to do Go the Fuck to Sleep, get her the audiobook version, too. It's Samuel L. Jackson and it's funny as he'll. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ "Not every ejaculation deserves a name" - George Carlin

Thank you so much for telling me that because I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. I bought it today and my bf and I laughed our asses off. Samuel L Jackson is awesome.

I generally prefer print books to audio, but I gave this one a listen a while back because I heard that Samuel Jackson was reading it. He's PERFECT for that book! I, too, laughed my ass off.

THIS! You're not obligated to get her anything. I have a sister with several children and she pulled shit on me, trying for years to get me to spend any disposable income on her kids from the time they were born. It's not your responsibility. She knows how you feel about this pregnancy so she shouldn't be expecting anything from you. For your family to expect you to contribute anything to this pregnancy is selfish on their part, because they're not respecting your views on this subject. They want the kid, they should pay for the kid.

I'm with some of the others - money for the kyd. Designated for the kyd only.
I agree. The kid can't help being born into fuckwittery. But if I fell into a parallel universe and decided to have a kid I'd totally want to have a 50’s pin-up girl themed lesbian wedding type baby shower. Awesome!

Perhaps a book on how to reduce her carbon footprint? Might help dissuade her from having more... Seriously, Julie, watch for attempts to have "Aunt Julie" (you) "help" care for her child, be an unpaid babysitter, etc. It might reinforce your points about her irresponsibility, and help dissuade her from asking for baby care, money, and other help, not to give her anything for the shower.

That Abortion Party Kit is a riot! Can't you buy Plan B over the counter? That would be funny. How about cloth diapers and rubber pants so at least she wouldn't fill a landfill with the disposables?

I refuse to ever be "Aunt Julie. " The way I see it, nothing about my sister's life has anything to do with me. I won't babysie, especially not for free. Now will I be sending any money. I'm sending my sister a few things as my last free gift to her. The only thing I'm buying "for the baby" is a bassonette I found at the thrift store - and that's for our mom's house when my sister brings her kid over.

Julie, I would like to know if you did send her any of the items you mentioned. She should get the condoms, spermicide and plan B

Not yet. I'm going home for a friend's wedding next month, so I'll give it to her then. Yes, it includes condoms, as well as other things I've mentioned. Unfortunately, plan B is a touch expensive to buy.
