What Americans Do All Day

The hardest job in the world...... yeah right......

I know this averaged out alot of people, but to hear all these moos talk about how time consuming it is to raise kids (and the majority of Americans are parents) you would think they could at least put a full hour into it!!! Violin

Over an hour and a half watching TV...but only 34 mins caring for kids.

This does not surprise me.

Wow, the centers of their universes, the sole purposes for their existences, the things that makes them all better, more wonderful and awesome than we the childfree only get 34 minutes out of their bizzy lives? NICE Roll-Eyes

I spend way more time than that every day with my birds, but I am a cold-hearted, selfish child hater. PFFFT.

It also explains why their kyds are feral, misbehaving little fuckers.
Almost no parenting at all. I weep for the future.

Even with my full-time job, I definitely spend more than 34 minutes caring for my child, it's just that it's in conjunction with cooking, cleaning and leisure (my leisure is reading to my son and making mega blocks towers - it's pretty awesome).

Good ammo for the next bingo. "According to recent studies, you only spend 34 minutes per day with your children. Tell me how such a short time can teach you unconditional love."

That sounds about right for most fathers in general and working moos, especially when the kids are school age. They maybe see them off in the morning, the kid is in his room or goofing off with friends until meal time, then he goes back to playing computer games or watching tv, and moo and duddy say good night. Computers and TV raises most kids these days. So the other 20 minutes or so is probably taking them to McDonlads or taking them somewhere to dump them off on anyone who will take them.

If YOU are the "exception" to what I am saying, then why does my commentary bother you so much?
I don't hate your kids, I HATE YOU!

"Over an hour and a half watching TV...but only 34 mins caring for kids."

sounds about right nowadays! hilarious

"who in the HELL spends 33 minutes a day shopping!"

If I'm quick and there's no (or very little) line, I can get out in 20 minutes or less! big grin

If they'd included fapping as its own response category I bet the results would show that people spend more time on that than on their kids. bouncing

Even if you double the time to equalize for the childless people who responded, it's still a ridiculously low number to justify a cow staying home and being taken care of of like a pet.

I think there are some flaws in the study. By looking at people who work full-time they are excluding retired empty-nesters, but they're not giving the full picture of the amount of time spent caring for children as it still includes people who don't have children, or who are empty-nesters who haven't retired. Since the majority of households (overall, I don't know about just working age) don't include underage children, that skews the results. Of course they also aren't considering part-time workers, which many parents are, especially when their children are young. (Stay-at-home parents are also excluded, yet it's often because there's a SAHM that the duh can get away with absolutely minimal involvement in child-rearing.) It's also merging those with teenage kids who may be actively trying to avoid their parents with those with very young kids who require more time.

I still think the results would be disturbing if they looked only at people with children in particular age groups, and it would be a much more compelling picture of the reality behind TMIJITW than this current study, which can be easily dismissed because it uses much too broad a brush.

Exactly. Only you wouldn't need to double since 80% of people are parents.

34 minutes? and yet we are supposed to put up with the kiddies in every restaurant, bar, store, and coffeeshop; not only that, we are supposed to help moo when her kid is having a tantrum in the safeway. is that time counted i n those 34 minutes?

fuck. that. shit. Hard-Core

Are those 34 minutes per day averaged over a work week or a seven-day week? Because if it includes weekends, then that is truly a disturbing statistic.
