This is just a whole bucket of crazy, over something that was not an insult in the first place.

Quote

A divorced couple have been ordered to pay a former PTA president $5.7million after planting drugs in her car in a failed attempt to have her arrested when a schoolyard argument got out of hand.

Kent Easter and his former wife Jill Easter, now known as Ava Everheart, were slapped with the damages bill by a court in Irvine, California, on Friday.

The pair, both former attorneys who attended top colleges, were previously jailed for attempting to frame Kelli Peters, a volunteer at Plaza Vista School in Irvine, which their son had attended.

The incredible case dates back to February 2010 when Easter and Everheart's son, then seven, was taking part in an after-school tennis lesson being supervised by Peters.

According to court documents, Everheart arrived at the school to pick up the boy, but found that he wasn't in his usual spot in the schoolyard.

Everheart confronted Peters over the delay, when she suggested that the boy had possibly been slow to line up after the class - a remark Everheart took as a slight against the boy's intelligence.

Peters recalled that the incensed mother shouted 'I'm going to get you' after the argument, and over the course of the next year carried out a campaign designed to have Peters removed from her job.

Easter and Everheart filed complaints to the school, accusing Peters of leaving their son unattended for long periods of time, causing him to have anxiety attacks.

They demanded that Peters be removed from her role, and when the school stood by her, Everheart accused Peters of stalking the family and threatening to kill her.

The fight eventually came to a head in 2011 when police were called to the school to reports that Peters had been driving erratically in the parking lot.

A man, speaking in an Indian accent, had called to report that he thought Peters had been on drugs and had seen her place a package behind her driver's seat.

When cops inspected the car, they found a large amount of marijuana along with packets of Vicodin and Percocet.

Peters was then questioned in the parking lot with the drugs placed on the hood of her car while people were leaving the school, a move that she said caused her considerable distress.

However, officers soon became suspicious of the call after Peters passed a curbside sobriety test, and instead turned their attention to Easter and his wife.

It later transpired that the police call had been placed from a hotel next to Easter's law firm, rather than close to the school, and CCTV showed him walking in and placing the call.

The level of insanity here is incredible, especially from people who are supposed to be educated and intelligent. Oh, heavens the teacher said Sneuxflayke was physically slow, lagging, to line up, obviously this is a major insult against his intelligence and that teacher must be destroyed!! Good grief. Even if the teacher had made the comment as an insult to his intelligence, that does not remotely justify what they did. It seems Moo was the one who created this whole thing. I can imagine she heard the slow remark then went running to duh and said bad teacher insult our spawn, we need to get revenge. And somehow, duh agreed? It's bad enough when one parent is bat shit crazy, but both? And being lawyers, they thought that this was even remotely a good idea? Just wow.

"...who attended top colleges..."??!! WHAT THE FUCK? Like attending a "good" college is an automatic guarantee that the person is going to be a contributing, upstanding member of society? Such fucking bullshit!

I'm a nurse, and as thom_c can probably attest, we come from a number of different types of nursing programs--from the BSN programs that are university/college based to the associate's degree and diploma programs based at community colleges or even the few hospital-based schools of nursing still open. But we're all nurses, and having BSN is no guarantee that I'm a better nurse or more caring or more competent of a nurse than say a nurse from a local community college who is a damned good practitioner.

Same with any other professions, but it bugs the fuck out of me to hear that somehow those breeders having gone to "good" colleges (and who the hell determined they were "good" if they were producing graduates like the two of them?!) are supposed to be automatically upstanding.

Sorry for going off on this, but I was reading an essay by some former Ivy League admissions officer giving a behind the scenes look at how their admissions process worked before he left. What a bunch of horseshit...most of the Ivy Leaguers I have ever had to work with were selfish, entitlement-poisoned fuckheads who couldn't tie their shoes without making some comment on those who were not Ivy Leaguers. Guess those of us that went to state and local schools are just menials to those pampered, amoral shitbricks.

Aren't these people supposed to be teaching their child how to handle this kind of shit without framing people for crimes? I mean, they should fucking take their kids away.

I went to some of the world's best schools. Sniff.

Actually, I tell some people the specifics and they seem shocked. Jeez, I hope I don't come off as *that much* of an idiot! LOL.

I was thinking of Tennis though, I played from childhood through Uni and the coaches are *harsh*. Yes even on kids. Yes even at the country club where my parents paid for lessons.

This? WTH? An anxious kid who is too young? What I remember is parents and coaches really pushing you. There was much yelling, cursing, throwing of racquets, I witnessed several fist fights. You really don't want to throw down with Tennis players either - we're pretty muscular, esp in the arms.

Coddling the boy would not result in a serious nor even competent player. Tennis coaches are notoriously harsh. And this woman was a volunteer? Wow, these fools should've been grateful for such a program. It sounds to me like they were looking more for *free babysitting* than for Tennis lessons. 7 is probably too young also. A child that young could not handle a regulation racquet. It was probably more of very beginner stuff, hell kids that young - I'd give them toy equipment like Nerf balls and such. I think I started around 10 or 12.

I still have my old equip smiling smiley Actually, my Pro graphite racquets *fell apart*. But I do still have my old aluminum practice racquet - Gawd, that's got to be ~ 25 years old. I just went and looked at it, yes I know exactly where it is because I still occasionally use it. Play for fun here and there even though my knees *are shot*. *From Tennis*. Elbows are not in the best of shape either. Ah, I was looking for the brand - but all markings are worn off. I want to guess Wilson. I got it at KMart for $7 - and it's held up and never had to be re strung either. I''m pretty sure the graphites were Head's and I trashed them pretty fast.

Then I'd go back to the cheap aluminum one, yes even for tourneys, which I took some shit for - until I WON! HA! Enough of people even asked about it, and where I got it, and then you saw more of these turn up even at the country club grinning smiley My old war horse. It's all dinged, banged, and scraped, the frame. But still works great and tight as if it had been strung yesterday. Grip markings all gone. IIRC the brand is Wilson. Excellent racquet, my fave. smiling smiley If there's anything I have any 'tender feelings' for and would cradle like a baby - it's this. One of the few old possessions I have kept throughout the years.

Psychological 'abuse' - ask your opponent to show you how they grip their racquet. This is a psychological trick meant to make the person second guess themselves.

Pwecious, Anxious, Junior here - is NOT cut out for this sport. It's alot harder than it looks and is quite physically demanding.

This kid is too young and if he's got "anxiety issues" - yeah, NO. He winds up with a "serious" coach (serious meaning - unhinged asshole) and he'll be ready for the nut house before he's in Middle School.

Ah, Fond Memories grinning smiley
I mean - my knees ~

I fail to see at what point the teacher insulted the kid. How exactly is "your son might be a little slow lining up today" an insult to the kid's intelligence? Did Moo think the teacher was implying that the kid was mentally slow because he wasn't exactly on time after his tennis lesson ended? What sane person would leap to that conclusion?

False accusations and planting of illegal drugs, all because these people with no lives felt slighted by a teacher's comment that they took waaaay out of context. I especially love that the parents aren't inbred trailer trash, but both are educated people. Just goes to show that education does not always equal intelligence (or sanity). I sure hope it was worth both of them losing their legal licenses, not that anyone in their right mind would pursue the services of attorneys who hold vendettas against innocent people because of imagined insults. I hope the teacher was able to get her job back, or is able to resume teaching after this whole fiasco, but the settlements she's getting from the two maniacs should help soften the blow of job loss a little bit.

It's too bad these two loons can't lose custody of their kid. If they're this fucked up and are happy to go to such lengths to frame and destroy the reputation of an innocent teacher, they shouldn't be allowed to raise a child, lest the kid grow up thinking such behavior is acceptable. Someone says something you don't like, misunderstand or mishear? Better go out of your way to ruin their life!

I guess there is a certain element of suprise.
I don't think it's about good education = upstanding citizen. The thing is when you are educated it is thought that you have better awareness of actions-consequences.
I had a bf who fucked up. I was with him at the lawyer's office and the lawyer told him that if he had no education it could be attenuating circumstance but because he is an academic he cannot expect any leniency.

She copped a plea and was disbarred. He was convicted, is not eligible to practice law pending disbarment. I am glad she had excellent lawyers:

He tried every trick in the book, but we were there for it and had an answer for it,” said Peters' attorney, who during the trial disclosed Easter “quit-claimed” his $1 million home in Irvine to his father-in-law after his arrest and alleged that the defendant was “hiding” assets. He argued that Easter was even pretending to be down-and-out by wearing a pullover sweater to court instead of a suit.

As an attorney who represented “fraudsters,” Kent Easter was “trained at the shell game,” said Marcereau, who’d sought $8.5 million in damages.

* Easter said he doesn't have the means to pay a large judgment. He is trying to get work as a legal consultant because his law license was suspended, but it's not much and he has been living with his parents while caring for the couple's three children, he told City News Service. Easter told jurors, “I never should have hurt Kelli Peters,” and he acknowledged that he would have to pay some sort of damages. “I'm not saying she was not upset, but this is not a million-dollar case,” he argued.

* He also argued he has already been punished by having to serve a six-month jail sentence, perform 100 hours of community service and by losing his law license and career. “I've already paid dearly,” Easter said. “I've lost my law license and career ... and the law says you have to take that into account. ... I'm not able to pay punitive damages. I'm a 41-year-old still living with my parents now. ... I've lost everything I've ever had but my family and I don't see the point of being punished further, but that's up to your judgment.”

* The jury’s judgment? You owe Kelli Peters $5.7 million, bucko.

Well, maybe your ass should have thought about that when you decided to make it your sole purpose to destroy someone's life and career because you misunderstood something they said. Had the police believed everything that these people said about this teacher, she almost certainly would have lost her job (I don't know if she ever got it back), lost her ability to work in the field of education, would have been imprisoned for possession of the planted drugs and would have had to pay shitloads of money she may not have even had. No clue if she has any dependents either who would have suffered - ailing relatives, pets or kids. Did Duhddy and Moomie think about any of that? NOPE. All they cared about was creating a criminal so undeserved justice could be served on behalf of their snookums.

I guarantee Moo and Duh would have celebrated had this teacher lost so much, but now that karma's biting them in their asses and forcing them to lose every single thing they have, they want to boo-hoo about how they've suffered enough. 'Scuse me while I go play the world's tiniest violin for you, Duh.

Hm...he wanted the teacher to lose her job and her future in her chosen career for "insulting" his sprog...and he lost his job and future in his career for framing her with a drug plant...and he thinks HE'S paying too steep a price?
Glad to hear the woman was awarded a massive settlement for this. I'm sure at some point she probably feared for her life, afraid what these desperate psychopaths would do next in their quest to pursue "vigilante justice". The stress, fear, and bewilderment she has probably felt during this entire trainwreck of a harassment case is probably off the charts. No innocent person should have to endure that.

Both of the guilty assclowns deserved to have the book thrown at them.

It's always such a shame when the most determined people put their efforts toward the wrong or worst targets. Imagine what these people could achieve (personally, professionally, etc.) if they took some of that energy that fueled their hatred toward this teacher into something that was actually worthwhile.

I can only assume that there won't be too many teachers in the future who have been teaching in the same position for 10 or 20 or more years like there used to be. Even with all the potential perks of the job, they are in no way worth the trouble caused by the students, administration and parents. Breeders now always side with their brats, no matter what. If a kid brings a gun to school and shoots his teacher point-blank in the face, the parents will say their snowflake isn't at fault because the teacher must have done something to provoke him because "he's such a good boy!" About this time is when an autism diagnosis (real or parent-diagnosed) will emerge and that the teacher should have known what Junior's triggers were and should have known to avoid them.

People ask me why I refuse to teach. I got a small taste of exercising brief authority over groups of brats for a couple months and that alone made me need to sit in my car every day before work and remind myself that prison wasn't worth strangling those rotten little monsters. I don't care if the job paid seven figures, provided all forms of insurance, got my student loans forgiven in full, had a fully-stocked bar in the teachers' lounge and I had an associate that crouched under my desk and licked my pussy every day, I still wouldn't fucking teach.
