Diagnostic technique could be a cheaper alternative to IVF

Just what infertile myrtles need - a way to get pigged up for less.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-05-19/fallopian-flush-supported-by-researchers-as-possible-alternative/8541818

A recent study suggests that a somewhat dated test known as hysterosalpingography, which involves imaging and contrast dye to help diagnose fertility issues caused by blockages in the fallopian tubes, might actually improve fertility just by being performed.

The tubes are flushed out using a fluid that is water- or oil-based (29% success rate with the water solution compared to 40% for the oil solution within six months of having the test done) and this alone can help clear the path for the egg to make its journey down to the uterus. This method not only rivals the success rate of IVF, but is less than 1/10 the cost of it. It also allegedly hasn't been touted all that much because it would mean fertility specialists wouldn't get as much business.

I hate when shit like this makes the news. Regardless of what some retards believe, our population has been at crisis levels for a while now and it's only going to get much worse because everyone is living longer while more people are successfully breeding. Widespread infertility would be the best thing that could happen to us, and it seemed like it was. I'd heard a lot of things about the overall fertility rate declining.

We shouldn't be dedicating any effort or money whatsoever to fertility research. We do not need more people, period - if barren couples want brats, they can go fucking buy one and be happy with that. But hopeful wanna-breeders don't care about the shitty future their kids and grandkids will have to deal with. All they care about is getting their own way and living in the moment. This is why I think childfree people are better parents than actual parents - the best thing anyone today can do for their children is not allow them to be born. Having a child when the whole planet is in a steep downward spiral automatically proves you are a horrible person.

What we should be doing is straight-up banning breeding until the population gets waaaaay down (compensating for the inevitable baby boom that would occur once we got the green light to do it again), not helping people make more fucking people. But since reproducing is considered a "basic human right," nobody will ever try to carry out any form of population control. Apparently, keeping people from getting hurty peewins is more important than the planet not turning into a flaming ball of shit.

Fertility has got to be a huge money maker and society has no issue with guilting everyone into breeding. Just because we can blow off bingos doesn't mean others are able to do so. I've heard of people paying thousands of dollars for one treatment. Note that none of these people ask why they are having issues with infertility in the first place and maybe they aren't healthy enough to do so. It is much easier to spend lots of money than address core lifestyle changes. And doctors would much rather charge thousands of dollars for one treatment and not convince their patients to make lifestyle changes. And many patients would go to different doctors until they found one who offered a magic bullet versus one who encourages lifestyle changes.

I agree but as long as we have stupid people who spend their time watching TV and being advertised to there will continue to be too many people on the planet. Third world will continue to have lots of kids but many will continue to die at a young age.

I have come to the conclusion that to be a doctor, especially an OB/GYN, one has to LOVE people, even if there are too many. I find that in any health care field, which is why I was not a good fit in mine. After a large family and crowded schools and nasty coworkers, I don't love people and maybe I am not "wired" that way. I think people who LOVE PEOPLE don't really perceive anything else, thus can ignore the noise, the pollution, the crowds, etc. How can anyone LOVE PEOPLE so much?

Oh, and I am sure that a lot of these doctors LOVE MONEY too!

In the case of any other illness/state of abnormal health, people would try to find the cause of the symptom instead of treating the symptom itself. Not so much with infertility. Sometimes, wanna-breeders don't give a fuck why they're barren - they just want it to be fixed long enough for them to get pregnant/impregnate someone. And yes, I know there are times when a person's infertility might be considered idiopathic because nobody can figure out what's causing it, but why is it that nobody ever stops and thinks, "Hmm, if my body won't do something it's supposed to do with minimal effort, maybe there's a reason for it and I should take the hint?" Why, instead, is the immediate reaction, "I can't have my own way! FIX IT NOW AT ALL COSTS!" Quit obsessing over shit you can't do and focus on what you can, for fuck's sake.

Goddammit, breeders are suckers. I honestly think they'd be better off taking those thousands of dollars they'd waste on IVF and use it to travel to the Ripley's Museum in NYC to pet the exotic fertility statue that boasts an impressive (alleged) pregnancy rate for people who have touched it.

I actually had this test many years ago as a diagnostic tool. It was pretty painful and it felt as if someone was shoving a brillo pad up my cooter. (The uterine dilation was painful due to never having a uterine passenge.)

I did ask the doctor whether the tubes were clear. He said yes and I wasn't happy to hear that. I ramped up my efforts to get a tubal ligation because because I didn't want any surprises.
