A future MIL at the library with her sprogs

I was at the library this morning (in a "white flight" famblee town) and a moo pulled up with the usual sprog in stroller followed by kid about three. Moo admitted to the librarian that she had about 100 cookbooks at home and hubby wa smaking her get rid of a bunch of them and take them out of the library from here on in. Her kids were two boys. She said she plans to teach them to "cook and bake" so she won't be "hated as a moo-in-law" down the road. I think breeders think that if they do all these superficial positive things then everything will be a-ok down the line

Yes, her kids should leave the nest knowing how to cook and bake...those are good life skills. But she's not doing it for that reason...she's doing it to make things "better" for HER, not because her kids should exit the nest knowing those skills. Is she also making sure they know how to keep a budget, do laundry, take care of basics on a car, spot an online or phone scam, talk through problems, understand and practice safer sex, and keep a reasonably clean, organized home? If so, will she only being those things, too, because she won't be "hated as a mother-in-law"?

Way to make it all about you, idiot lady.
