Opinion: Equal access to abortion means Mifegymiso's cost must be covered in all provinces

Newfoundland and Labrador still hasn't said whether it will cover the $300 price tag

Accessing abortion services for all Canadians seemed to become much easier with Health Canada's 2015 approval of, and recent easing of restrictions on, Mifegymiso, commonly known as the "abortion pill."

"Seemed" is the key word here, however. It's still tougher to get access in Newfoundland and Labrador than it is in many other parts of Canada.

Why? The hefty $300 price tag.

Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Québec have all pledged universal cost coverage of the abortion pill, but we are still waiting on a statement from the government of Newfoundland and Labrador regarding this issue. "

=======================================

Recently, Canada has become more progressive regarding abortion rights and this access issue is one more way to make it available for rural and low income women in eastern Canada.
NFLD is very Catholic in comparsion to the other provinces. I used to live there for a while. Henry Morgentaler, the guy who is basically the reason why abortion is legal in Canada, from what I can remember was attacked by a guy with hedge clippers when he was in NFLD and this became a populat incident and seemed to "reflect" a lot of isolated "Newfies"

Also in 1989, some proliar nut started a legal brawl with his ex girlfriend

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremblay_v_Daigle.

Chantel Daigle left the relationship with this abusive dude and he filed an injunction legally stop her from aborting. I think it went to Canada's SC to be resolved, but due to a time issue she went to upstate NY to a Planned Parenthood as it was dragging through the courts. I also remember Canada considering overturning their version of Roe vs Wade, but seemed to strenghen their resolve in the end to keep abortion legal with the unspoken idea that abortion is an unresolvable issue, but it is inhuman to fall on the side of forced birthers and there hasn't been a problem since that I know off.

The guy that tried to stop her from aborting was convicted years later of throwing his landlady down a flight of step were he was renting after a disagreement. I remember reading that in a short article in a Quebec paper on something like page 20. He was a real violent contral freak when it came to women.
