This sounds like as much of a punishment as it is some kind of weird, cultish "cure".

If the bleach is enough to scare the children so bad that they no longer behave the same way then these kids are teachable. They could benefit and learn from a much less abrasive and more humane method instead, such as taking away a favorite toy. Notice the article doesn't assert this. It takes a special kind of lazy parent who would rather poison their child than give positive and negative reinforcement.

It also infers that these same kids aren't even low functioning autistic, but farther up on the spectrum - the same spectrum every other person on the planet is on, only difference is how high up one is. We all know that awtism is the standard du jour excuse for all poor behaviour, and this misdiagnosis, automatically entitles carte blanche to the parents - as now, every foul behaviour is excused as 'he/she is awwwtistic'. Even if they still have awwwtism, like Freya says, they're teachable. The ones that don't respond, are probably the types that spend their day flapping, masturbating and smearing their feces on everything.

As Freya says, it wouldn't take much brain power to link rocking = having to drink acid or have your insides eaten out with drain cleaner.

As for the parents willing to have their kid drink acid (it's actually an alkaline - but it still burns like acid) in a futile attempt to stop a physiological disability, are certainly 'contenders for parents of the year' awards!

The worst thing is that none of this is new. In a thread here five years ago the topic came up with this link:

This blog entry appeared nearly six years ago to try to warn others about this nonsense, but you can see said nonsense still has its advocates. Really, though, is anyone here surprised? By the way, Thom_C hit the nail on the head with his excellent point.

It certainly has advocates, as much as anti-vaxxers and flat earthers too have advocates - simply because there's a large swath of the population whom are barely-functional retards, who actually believe all manner of ridiculously illogical and moronic things. Hell, if unqualified idiots can make a fortune selling vagina eggs and memory water, there's no wonder people believe curing a neuro-developmental disorder with drinking bleach.

Now taking one's word for it, 'curing' 38 people of an incurable neuro-physiological disorder, tells me that these 'cured' didn't have autism in the first place, as no amount of poison drinking will do squat with what is essentially a brain deformity, the same as it wouldn't cure a cleft lip, or hole in the heart.

We all know that autism is this century's over-diagnosed ADHD, and is the euphemistic, de jour diagnosis for plain lazy parenting and not accepting responsibility and accountability. I would hazard to say that those 38 kids didn't have autism, but a clear diagnosis 'lazy parenting shirking responsibility'.
