Virgin territory: why the Japanese are turning their backs on sex

Quote

Recent reports from the US, UK and Germany also show dampening sex drives among the young, postponed marriages, fewer babies being born. Dimmed economic prospects and financial insecurity thwart physical desire, while greater access to online porn, dating sims, games and the dopamine highs of social media siphon away desire’s fuel: time and money. But regardless of their passports, the primary inactives are men.

Lol, why equate birthrates with supposed celibacy? You don't need to get married to have kids and you don't even need sex for reproduction anymore (sperm banks). Personally, I think the Japanese have a good idea. A future run with minimal people and robots doing alot of the work. Forget diapers, AI can run the world and it probably will in the next 20 years. And along with climate change we probably don't even want that many people around.

I think many other countries are having consistently negative birth rate though (Cuba, Germany, Russia). And the US rate just fell below replacement. Sounds good to me.

America will soon start forcing women to be mothers regardless. The GOP are inclined to force women to get pregnant, regardless if there is a sexual partner or not. I can see some GOP proposing rape centers.

I recently found out that my insurance pays 100% if a tubal. I made an appointment with my gynecologist who has already said will sterilize me to start the ball rolling. It’s not just so I don’t have to worry about birth control, it’s also GOP control.

"Society does not need more children; but it does need more loved children. Quite literally, we cannot afford unloved children - but we pay heavily for them every day. There should not be the slightest communal concern when a woman elects to destroy the life of her thousandth-of-an-ounce embryo. But all society should rise up in alarm when it hears that a baby that is not wanted is about to be born."

I doubt there's a decrease in sex drive (maybe a decrease in sex with other people, but not drive), but probably more along the lines of Japanese guys figuring out that babies suck and they can just get a pillow with a picture of a hot girl on it and love that than deal with the horse shit a real woman will bring into their lives. That, or they find video games and porn more fulfilling than human companionship.

I think people are just scared because we might have not as many white people around to wipe asses in the future. Meanwhile, I'm sure people in Africa are still producing lots of babies via consensual and non-consensual sex alike. People everywhere are simply figuring out that reproducing is not the worthwhile life journey everyone said it is, and they're figuring it out before actually reproducing.

We aren't gonna run out of people anytime soon. Even if everyone in the whole world quit breeding for five straight years, we'd still be grossly overpopulated.

I think this is the link, but Japanese males are under extreme pressure to make it career wise until they lose it mentally.
I think they are not so into a pressure cooker of a career that they are caught in once they marry and have kids, so they lose it and become hermits and make out with a blow up doll.

Then there is the problem of them becoming middle aged and their parents dying off

Aren't low birthrates a good thing? With all of the bruhaha about automation and how robots will be taking up a lot of jobs, having less people means that there will be less competition for the jobs that are left.

Plus there would be less overcrowding and less crime, thus leading to lower costs and increased quality of life.

Japan has filial piety ingrained in the culture along with overall expensive real estate. And let's not forget they also have the longest life expectancy in the world. Can't imagine why they aren't breeding indiscriminately. A two bedroom apartment in Tokyo is often around 500 square feet, half the size of a two bedroom in the USA. Where are young adults supposed to have sex if they're living in Tokyo in an 800 square foot apartment along with their parents and grandparents?

Also, I'd venture to guess living in that dense population is likely to dispel any romantic notions of what parenting entails.
