The whole game is to force the issue with the SC and with that Kavanaugh ass in, it may be overturned, which means it will go back to the states, which means blue states will be overflowing with Red state conservatives trying to get their abortions, which means it will be easier to chop away at rights at the state level, until this country is the first developed modern nation to officially go back to the year 1736. Generally with countries that live in that year or earlier never made it into the 21st, but this one is heading back from the 21st century to 18th.

I wish this country would just break up already. Really IMO I think we'd be better off if states like Alabama left the country and formed their own theocratic nation and left the rest of us alone. I've lived in the South, and I've lived in the North and they are already like different countries so why not make it official.

Just when it looked like Alabama was trying to shed its backwater image after barely failing to elect Roy Moore 16 months ago, they reversed course and went down that backwater path again.
CFdave, a minor correction to this part of your post:

The wealthy ones will be able to afford to take the time off work and afford the travel and lodging to get abortions in adjacent states, assuming those somewhat similar backwater states (Mississippi, anyone?) have any abortion providers near the state lines. The poorer folks will be stuck or try to get back-alley abortions a.k.a. Dirty Dancing.
Will SCOTUS Chief Justice Roberts be the deciding vote to uphold even part of Roe? I am certain Kavanaugh will contradict anything he said in his hearing about respecting precedent to suit his conservative ends.

On NPR this morning the conservatives in liberal MA are reving up over the Alabama thing and are getting organized to go after gay marriage also saying that gay marriage is "taking down this country" so there are minority types fighting to end abortion/gay marriage in the most liberal places where they live.

The conservatives feel that it is women in policy positions, women persuing degrees, careers, that are the reason why the country is in the crapper socially and economically. The call it the "feminization of America" and they blame empowered women for destroying the traditional family which they see as the foundation for a strong society with a robust economy, jobs are for men, raising "the future" is for women and then when they last kid is in school they can always become secretaries. They feel that gays, trans, empowered women make the US the laughing stock of places like the mid east making them more likely to attack and take over through immigration which they blame "feminized" liberals for allowing. They want the US to be a place the rest of the world is terrified of.
So the only thing they feel will work is to force women back into traditional family roles, by denying them abortions placing them back under the control of men who will put them in their "place" creating a masculine society to be reckoned with.
If women want to take the illegal abortion route conservatives will be glad when that kills her, because if she was that against sprogging she was useless to society anyway and is completely disposable. They see CF women as total non entities who have no horse in the race anyhow and if a CF woman dies from an abortion, well she was not only useless, but weird and evil. I think the conservatives are not going to stop until it is 1952 again and there will be profound abuse against women in the future for daring to be independant, they will also try to take down gay marriage, anything that was not acceptable in 1950 will be on the chopping block legally.
