Being European, I don't see what's so controversial about healthcare for all. Of course you have to stop letting companies charge such obscene prices, but when you have a whole government behind it you can enforce reasonable prices. At least I am quite happy with what I pay and what I receive.

I agree about covetous breeders, but our medical system is the WORST IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD. We've diseases that the third world are dealing with stalking our neighborhoods.

The problem is our government corruption. We have one of the most corrupt governments in the world, and our taxes go only to the military industrial complex and corporate welfare for the rich. If we got rid of those two, a lot of money would be discovered.

Sadly, government officials are bought and paid for before they even sit down in Congress.

Corporate America would LOVE for the public to have to pay for all of their healthcare out of their pockets. The government would also LOVE having another bucket of money they can raid, another honey pot. All the companies would be able to stop paying healthcare as a benefit and make the workers pay it instead. The payment of health care is simply offset from one group to another and given a warm and fuzzy title of "universal healthcare". Of course, the only people who would benefit from this are the wealthy who own corporations (who already have enough) and the poor, maybe (simply because they don't have to pay anyways and may see an improvement in services).

The insurance/pharmaceutical industry lobbyists OWN the government and they would never allow it to lower prices unless it benefits them financially. So, if prices are lowered it would be because taxpayers are getting nailed. The government allows them to charge the insane prices and gouge customers. They even let them advertise on TV!

Remember pensions? It would end up being just like that. Pretty soon hardly anyone has a pension and everyone has to save for their own damn retirement because the social security they've been paying into since working is also corrupt. Who benefits from the lack of a pension? Corporate America! My parents and grandparents have pensions and combining that with social security means sustaining life. And Corporate America loves raiding a pension fund, if they can get away with it. And some are paid for with deferred worker's money, where they get a better benefit for saving now and lower fees than 401K. And Corporate America often does raid pensions:

One day it may be remember health insurance? It used to be an employee benefit, now everyone has to pay a fortune in taxes for it (except of course, for the people with a ton of kids). My health insurance is at no cost to me as an individual through my company. Having to pay for a universal health insurance for me would mean no longer funding my retirement. And I doubt I'm alone in saying that because we all know the childless are going to get screwed on any kind of government program.
