If you work remotely or freelance, you might consider a co-working space. But be careful what space you choose, because there are now co-working spaces with childcare. You really, really don't want to wind up in one of these spaces:

However, there are drawbacks to working with children on site. Goto admits the noise can filter through from the nursery to the office. “That is something I sometimes slightly struggle with, as we’re literally next door and can hear if a baby is crying, so it can be distracting, especially as a lot of the time you think it’s your own baby and it’s not.”

It’s the same at Huckletree West. “It’s not completely soundproof,” says Barron. “If kids are screaming, you can hear it.”

Stocked up with toys and books and featuring a dress-up section and a breastfeeding room, Cuckooz Nest, located in Clerkenwell, opened in 2018 and allows parents to book desk space and qualified childcare on a flexible pay-as-you-go basis...

The tagline of this article is "Fed up with escalating childcare costs and inflexible nurseries? A new breed of workplaces can help." The price is £14 per hour per child, with space for 18 children. Assuming a full nursery and an 8-hour day, they are getting a maximum of £2016 a day. I wonder how that is going to pay for the childcare space, the lactation room, the insurance, and - most importantly - the childcare employees who are going to be available flexible hours, for a flexible number of children. I'm guessing there's a certain underclass of worker here who isn't able to flit around between co-working spaces all over the world...

Still, for an individual breeder, £2240 per month is not cheap.

Megan Jarvie, head of Coram Family and Childcare, says it can be a struggle to find affordable childcare. “Prices are high and only half of local areas have enough childcare for parents working full-time,” she says. “A whole range of different families can struggle with childcare costs, but families with the youngest children face the highest costs and receive the least support. For example, a single parent with a young child can spend up to half of their disposable income on childcare costs, even once they are claiming government support. Families are left with few choices if they can’t find childcare they can afford: some rely on friends and family, but others will find they simply cannot afford to work. These costs are really hitting families.”

Oh, cry me a river about your diminished disposable income. With a tax-free childcare scheme and child tax credits, it's the CF people who are subsidizing breeders, without any say in how those children are raised or even if they should exist in the first place.

Funny how they "we're all in this together" mentality always falls short once they have collected their tax incentives. And they use a disproportionate amount of services. All of the sudden, they're the only one being thrown life preservers while the rest of the taxpayers foot the bill or are drowning. The minute they get any benefit it just whets their appetite for more.

It ends when a CF coworker asks them to cover a shift, too.
