Japan airlines realizes sitting next to babies sucks

They've introduced a seat map to help you avoid sitting near infants.

Japan Airlines has introduced a feature on its seat booking system that shows where young children are seated.

A "child" icon appears when a passenger is travelling with children aged under two years.

...

Japan Airlines' website says the icon "lets other passengers know a child may be sitting there". However, the airline warned the tool was not foolproof, as the icon might not appear if a ticket was booked through a third party or if there was a last-minute change of aircraft.

Can you imagine the absolute shitstorm that would occur if they tried that here in the west?

So glad I'm flying with JAL next year.

There's already a shitstorm, on Twitter lots of twits are saying babies can't control themselves (we know, that's why we're not arresting them for being a nuisance), you were a baby once too (but fortunately my parents had more consideration for my comfort and didn't cause me ear pain out of selfishness), and get some noise-cancelling headphones already (if they worked for high-pitched irregular noises I would happily use them).

It could be considered low-level child abuse to drag children along on flights. I know infants and toddlers are more sensitive to pressure changers so I kind of expect it from them. And parents should not have the right to disturb other passengers.

Breeders don't care about their kids, until it comes to getting special treatment for having them. They don't care that their young baby/toddler is suffering horrendous ear pain because of the pressure changes in the cabin, but they'll quickly get pissed off and defensive if anyone questions their ill treatment of their kid eg. "how dare you tell me how to raise my child!" "how are my parents supposed to meet their grandchild if I don't fly to see them?" (so, why did you move so far away from your parents in the first place? What the fuck do you think FaceTime is for?) "Why should I have to stay home? You should stay home! Don't you know how haaaaaaaaaaard it is to be a parent?? Have some compassion (while I have no compassion for my kid or the people around me)!!"

Breeders love to say "it takes a village to raise a child!" until the villager says something they don't wanna hear, then it's time for the Mama Bear(TM) claws! So predictable.

All-too-predictable. I had a bit of a problem flying with my family to Europe in the 60s. But I was old enough to tell my mother that my ears hurt and she had me take a stick of gum to chew which helped to equalize the pressure. Unfortunately, that can't be done with a toddler or infant. I know I wouldn't take an infant or toddler on a plane because I know the pressure change can be painful and I don't think other passengers should be disturbed. But then, my mother raised me to be considerate of others.

How about flying meemaw and pawpaw out to see them instead?

You just know that's not a reasonable answer either, because moo or duh will either wax lyrical about meemaw and pawpaw's numerous - possibly exaggerated or self-diagnosed - medical conditions, or they'll take the MYOB route and again go on to say that if you don't like it, then YOU should stay home, not them.

They won't be hidden away like lepers just because they had kids! They DESERVE to leave the house, inflict their spawn on the general public and be worshipped for it!! Your well-earned vacation or terrible pilgrimage to a loved one's funeral is nowhere near as important as them dragging their kids EVERYWHERE, whether they belong there or not.

Again, breeders are so predictable.

I don't fly anymore because of medical problems, but I carry breeder defense in my purse when I go to places I can't avoid like the store or doctor's office. That defense is a small MP3 player and a pair of waterproof earphones in a coin purse.

We all know the majority of people who appreciate the baby tracker on the airline have/will have kids, even if they are grown. I'd guess this prevents people from wanting to shuffle their seats while on the plane if they are next to a banshee shrieker.

This was advertised for a 12 hour flight. Obviously some people had issues with sitting next to a wailing brat for a 12 hour flight. I wouldn't be surprised if people arrived to their destination and suffered issues with sleep, migraines or with trying to work.

Money talks and flying with a famblee where 2 of 5 members fly for free because of their age and disrupt other customers with a loud noise doesn't give them special clout. And not to mention demanding babysitting and escorts for brats if they fly unaccompanied. If anything they are digging their own graves with this nonsense.

I say charge anyone who flies. They already charge for pets who fly, even though they are kept in a carrier under a seat or the undercarriage. And there is a pet limitation on each flight. And charge brats who fly unaccompanied for any extra services. Use the money to install these alerts for all airlines. It will discourage shriekers and their ilk from flying and that will make everyone else happier on flights.
