Another reddit mom who sees her child as an extension of herself

I lurk on a subreddit for names (not just baby names, though that is certainly the majority of chatter). Somebody just posted asking if any other people wouldn't consider a certain name for their children if they couldn't imagine having the name themselves. She said she loved the name Zola, but had never considered it for her own child because she didn't feel like a "Zola."

I give her credit for being aware that she, as she said, needs to "get [her] ego out of it," but it struck me as yet another example of how parents expect their children to be exact copies of themselves (maybe with a few elements of their partner mixed in). It's no wonder that parent/children relationships get so contentious right around the time kids start developing their own opinions and personalities....
