Maybe this will be a news flash for some of the lurkers. When you feel that a family is creepy and child-obsessed, you should trust your instincts.

The word circulating quietly is that as Catholic priests were with little boys, so fundies are with little girls, and not just fundie preachers, mind you. The one thing that has kept this story from blowing wide open is that fundamentalist churches do not have the organized top-down hierarchy the Catholic church does, so it's much harder to hold the overall organization accountable. Also, the families themselves are as much a problem as the preachers, as we see with ol' Josh, in contrast with the Catholics.

In addition, the fundies here are familiar with the US legal system in a way the Catholic hierarchy was not, so they manage to forestall publicity and legal action.

God-fearing people will always have some excuse for their bad behavior and how they should really be exempt from punishment and judgment because of other good things they may or may not have done. Why it wasn't Josh's fault he abused little girls and owned/received kiddy porn - it was God's fault for making those girls so beautifully irresistible and it drove him to sin! God just has such mad design skills that Josh couldn't resist. I'm surprised he didn't come out and say that it's also the victims' faults for tempting him because that's just a standard excuse for sexual abusers.

He's only mad that he got caught and in typical Catholic/Christian/Fundamentalist fashion, he figures he just has to say he's sowwy and then he's got the green light to be a bastard all over again. Because when you're a god-fearing type, all you have to do is apologize and everything is okay again. You don't even have to mean it - an empty apology is just fine.

These people use the excuse of how centuries ago people had tons of children, well back then kids had a high mortality rate (like only 2/10 would survive) and they needed as many hands as possible to keep their farms going, today we have much better medical care so this excessive breeding is not necessary at all.

I belong to a fundy Christian FB group for Christian women having intimacy problems with their husband. In EVERY case I've seen posted there, it's always the same shit. Husband is a serial cheater, they had kids immediately after a sexless engagement of 1 year, husband has an OnlyFans account, husband is a boozer, smokes weed, husband won't fuck his wife, he prefers other women, some of them rather young, husband locks his laptop and phone so wife can't check up on him. What is with Evangelical men and sleazy behavior?

These women want to leave their POS husband but are brainwashed out of by Christian church counselors. When they post intimate details on FB, the advise they get from other women is to forgive their husbands of the most egregious behavior and let him be the Biblical family leader, that questioning him and holding him to standards is unwifely and disrespecting him as a Biblically Christian, superior man. They should pray for him that he'll change his sinful ways, and until then, go to counseling alone if he won't go, because divorce is sinful.

Serious Evangelicals will not have sex until they are married. The ones that are a little less serious will have sex after being officially engaged and will be embarrassed for the rest of their lives when admitting this (I also think they derive a certain amount of pleasure out of being discovered or convincing themselves to admit their naughtiness. I heard so many "confessions" from the sex while engaged crowd as a teenager. They absolutely love preaching against the sins they committed). Since they mostly wait until marriage to have sex they have repression levels that are very unhealthy. This is also exactly why most of 'em marry young. I would guess most (if not all) nymphomaniacs and satyrmaniacs originate from highly repressed religious upbringings.

Ones who have sex prior to this fall into two categories: people who were never serious evangelicals in the first place OR rebellious children who will see the error of their ways, repent to their parents (why? did they steal dad's condoms or something?) and become the most obnoxious beings on the planet: born again fundamentalists. One of the required steps for born again fundamentalists is to admit their sins to their parents and ask for forgiveness. If he's doing that, then he hasn't truly turned away from his evil. It's not merely apologizing, real repenting is feeling convicted by the Holy Spirit, acknowledging that you did something evil, being humble and sorrowful for it, confessing it, and turning away from it and anything that will tempt you toward it again. This may mean for him never being near a child or his own children again, and no private internet. He is subject to the consequences.

And to how strongly and to such a degree that this should be taken seriously?

I'll be real though, I've never been a fan of the Duggers or watched any of their episodes. Any show heavily emphasizing baby/pregnancy as a theme is a big turnoff, nor anything that glorifies this weird, warped type of American Christianity. I think Quiverful is toxic, the whole thing is built on a dodgy interpretation of a verse that seems to be written as a sort of congratulations or 'may you be blessed' type blessing for someone with kids rather then how they are taking it.

There are no words that can convey enough the level of dislike that I have for Quiverful.

But the beauty of being a Catholic is that most of them don't even read the Bible, and if they do, they cherry-pick verses that apply to them and then twist them around to suit their purposes so if they get into any trouble, they can just blame it on Gawd because they were just following the word of the Lord.

Just goes to show how full of shit Christians really are, as if further proof was needed. Plus, I'm sure at least one person is looking at our boy Josh and going, "Well, at least he abused little girls!" Because if he molested little boys or even grown men, it would be so much worse because of all the verses in the Bible that discuss what a sin it is to "lay with a man as you would with a woman."
