Moo went into presumably unstoppable labor at 21 weeks and two days - this kid was honestly within abortion range less than two weeks prior and weighed less than a pound. And because 20 weeks is the gestation at which fetuses can survive outside the uterus, I'm sure all stops were pulled out to save this half-baked creampie, even though doctors told the parents the thing had a 0% chance of surviving.

Of course, the child "beat the odds" and celebrated its first birthday. Not only was he a "miracle baby," but he's officially listed in the Guinness Book as the world's most premature child (that survived). I see in some coverage of the story, he's got a nice oxygen tube, probably from lungs that never formed and he can't breathe right - I presume if he lives to be a little older, he'll get a lung transplant and take perfectly good organs away from someone else.

I'm sure as far as the parents are concerned, the kid was already worth the hassle because he became a record holder. I can only imagine how many problems the kid has or will have - yes, he survived, but at what cost? He was born literally half-formed. I'm sure the staff couldn't just let it die because they're probably required to save severely premature loaves at all costs.

I love how they describe the kid as "happy and fairly healthy." I'm sure that's a tremendous overstatement. He's still on oxygen a year in - he is not fairly healthy and there is no telling the extent to which he'll be limited/disabled. Big shock, the parents struggled to conceive and had one fetus die on them already, so they're totally willing to force a sick, horribly premature child to remain alive so they can play house.

I guarantee they're trying for another one, either A) so the can have a replacement ready for when the first one dies, or cool smiley so they have a caregiver for the first kid in the event he lives longer than expected.

Story
The Guinness-record-holding world's most premature baby celebrated his first birthday with an epic smash cake.

Richard Hutchinson was born on June 5, 2020 when his mom, Beth Hutchinson, was just 21 weeks and two days pregnant.Rick and Beth Hutchinson

"He weighed 11.9 ounces and fit into one hand," Hutchinson, whose due date was in October 2020, told TODAY Parents. "My pregnancy was fairly normal with no major issues and we're still not sure why he was born early."

Baby Richard's road was a rocky one: The newborn spent four months in the NICU followed by another month in the hospital preparing to come home.

During Richard's hospital stay, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hutchinson and her husband, Rick, spent lots of time traveling between home and the hospital, as they were unable to stay overnight with their son due to restrictions from the pandemic.

"He left the hospital on December 4th, 2020 right on time for Christmas," said Hutchinson, who shared that she and Rick struggled for years to conceive before getting pregnant with Richard, and had a pregnancy loss in 2018. "There were and still are a lot of different specialists involved with Richard through this whole process, but for him to come home, he had to be stable and had to be on half a liter or less of oxygen as well."

Hutchinson, who lives in Wisconsin, says it was Richard's doctor who began looking into whether or not the baby would qualify as a Guinness world record holder. After a bit of research, she learned Richard was indeed the world's most premature baby, beating out a record that stood for nearly four decades.

According to Guinness, in 1978, a Canadian couple delivered a baby boy at 21 weeks and five days. That child, James Elgin Gill, previously held the world record that now belongs to Richard. Baby Richard turned 1 on June 5, 2021.

Today, Hutchinson describes her son as "happy and fairly healthy," and says celebrating his first birthday was a milestone she wasn't sure she'd see come to pass.

"He is always surprising us all and making a mark on the world at a young age," she said. "His birthday was a blast — we just had family over and had cake and ice cream. And, we counted our blessings. We're thankful that he's here with us.

What do they care, they're almost certainly not paying for it.

This issue is one of the ways in which CF people differ from most of the population. Most people believe premature or sick kids should be kept alive at all costs no matter how dire their conditions. CF people actually think about quality of life. This is one reason why the CF are often considered cruel or heartless. People are like "baw, how could you not want to save BAYBEEEZ you meanie head!" I don't understand how they think it is kind to artificially prolong the life of someone who will only suffer. Yes, there are people of all ages who have a disability but still have a pretty good quality of life. That is not the same as a severely premature baby, or one with a serious birth defect. It is frustrating how dense many people are. All they can see is omigod baybee!

Alot of this is pushed by the government, who sees babies of any sort as future cannon fodder or economic slaves.

Some people even go one further, and say if you abort a baby with an obvious birth defect, you are against people with disabilities. I think it is one thing if, through bad luck, you have the misfortune to have some defect that makes your quality of life lower (like my allergies), but why in the world would you not try to prevent that? I'm perfectly willing to concede that I would be better off without my allergies - and better off not existing.
