Just read another story about a childfree couple suddenly having a surprise kid from the guy's past thrust into their lives. While the story itself is likely complete fiction, a sad number of people in the comments are excoriating the CF couple for being reluctant or even refusing to raise the child. The woman says outright she hates kids, while the guy just doesn't want them. I will never, ever understand why people think someone with either of those attitudes is the best choice to be a parent just because of a DNA connection. NO CHILD SHOULD BE RAISED BY PARENTS WHO DON'T WANT THEM. But these geniuses are talking about how this evil bitch who hates kids should divorce her poor husband (also CF, remember!) so he can raise his child.

Sigh.

Sucks for the kid no matter what, but forcing someone to be a parent when they don't want to be is never the answer. I don't know why all these child-worshippers can't comprehend the idea that every child should be a wanted child.

Maybe if these people stopped popping out unwanted and unnecessary kids, they wouldn't be so eager to have people who have chosen not to have kids to raise them.

CF people generally are smarter. Our lives are better and we don't have the same kinds of health issues that breeders have so in theory, I guess it makes sense to them. However, that being said, I fail to see how someone who genuinely doesn't want kids would make a good parent under any circumstances. It doesn't matter how many resources someone has, if they don't want to raise the kid, it'll be viewed as a burden and a PITA.

I feel bad for the kids who have been created by irresponsible idiots. It's genuinely not their fault and it sucks that they end up paying the ultimate price. It's not up to people who don't want kids to fix the wrongs of those idiots though. This is also further evidence that breeders are only into it for themselves and the kids they make generally don't matter.

I don't understand this either. No one should be a parent unless they 100% desire it. This is why I strongly support abortion including through full term. Give the parents every option for an out before the child arrives. Because once the child is here it deserves to have both parents 100% dedicated, at the minimum.

If someone is a stepparent (or not biologically obligated) then he/she needs to leave if they aren't 100% into the level of parenting mutually agreed upon by their spouse/partner.

And the attempts of shaming the childless/childfree/relatives/grandparents into parenting other people's kids needs to stop. Shame is not an antidote for reluctance and the child is the one who will pay the price for the forced/reluctant care giver's frustration.

Disrespect is why they don't. They hate people who are different, dare to think different. They also don't respect the child. They don't see the child as a human, they see the child as an object. They see the child as a possession. Something they own, they control, that owes them. And when the child shows independence, autonomy, individuality it pisses them off and the so called parents resent it. And they can fluff and pose how their children don't know it, but those of us who were not wanted, the wrong sex, born for the wrong reason we know. And we carry the scars our whole lives.

I have never understood this attitude either. If someone comes right out and says they hate/dislike kids and don't want them, why is their immediate reaction to say, "Oh you should just have one anyway!" The fuck kind of logic is that? Why would you tell someone to have something they have explicitly said they don't want or like?

Is it the belief that the second you hold the child - wanted or not - your heart will melt and you'll be flooded with oxytocin? The belief that no one could truly dislike kids, or that kids are just so cuuuuuute that no one could resist one? Yeah if that happened, nobody would ever hurt or kill their kids.

In a sense, people who dislike kids could make some better parenting decisions than actual parents. I think CFers would be less likely to give in to kids' bullshit and would be more likely to use discipline and consequences compared to actual parents.

Forcing unwilling people into parenthood is a terrific recipe for abuse, neglect, and quite possibly murder. But I guess people only care whether or not if someone has a kid, not how good of a parent they will be. I mean fuck, people who 100 percent want their kids and had them on purpose can still wind up hating every second of parenthood and wishing their kids were never born. How the fuck is someone who has zero interest in parenting going to be helpful to a child? That sounds like a sure-fire way to guarantee the child grows up needing therapy to figure out why Mommy and Daddy didn't want them. A lot of people cannot afford to unfuck their heads after an entire lifetime of parental abuse/neglect.
