Shannen Doherty wanted to do IVF 5 years ago while in remission

She admitted before she died that when her cancer went into remission back then that she wanted to do IVF which would have made her 48 when she would start that.
I mean how foolish would that be? A middle aged person is in remission, wants to put themselves though that, only the cancer came back to kill her at age 53.

She then said maybe adoption at the time and that being with a kid for a short period of time would be better than not having one at all.

A child without parents has been through enough trauma and doesn't need to be adopted by someone who cannot provide for him/her, long term.

Good for her, I'm sure. But what about the kid that got thrown out by its biological parents, gets adopted and then has to sit and watch its new mother slowly die from cancer? And had she succeeded in getting pregnant at the age of 48, her child would have only been about five years old when she died, not to mention the possibility of passing on a genetic risk for cancer. If her breast cancer was due to a BRCA or BRCA2 genetic mutation and she birthed a girl, it would pretty much be a guarantee of that child developing breast cancer when she got older.

But who cares if a kid has to go through the trauma of losing a parent and getting passed to yet another family afterward? So long as Shannen could play house for a few years!

That's entirely possible. I'm assuming female hormones are used in IVF and fertility treatments, and I believe some types of breast cancer are estrogen-dependent. If she did IVF to get knocked up and got pumped full of estrogen, she may well have fed her cancer.

I'm sorry she got so sick and ultimately succumbed to her cancer after beating it once. But the LAST thing anyone should be doing when they have cancer is breeding or adopting. If your time on this planet has a shortened expiration date due to illness and you know full well about it, you do NOT need to make an entirely new human being or go out and buy one someone didn't want. Because it's fucking selfish to force a child to have to try and navigate the grief of losing a parent just so you can have someone to call you "Mommy" for a little while.

Not just girls. The BRCA gene mutation has been implicated in pancreatic cancer in males and females.
