Another shit parent doesnt watch their brat in an age-inappropriate museum

Posted by cfuter
4-year-old museum visitor accidentally smashes Bronze Age jar — which had survived intact at least 3,500 years

And, of course, since the age of 'you break it, you bought it' is over, family instead gets REWARDED w/ an offer of a free guided tour in the future, while museum eats costs in repairing priceless item. Just another parent that would do anything to protect his child, but 'just looked away for a second' I'm sure. One of my fave activities is watching brats create chaos while parents are looking away for 'one' second. A museum like this one is not appropriate for a child this age, unless the adults are holding his hands at every moment. Otherwise, at least wait til said kid gets to 8 or even much older. They arent gonna want to look an old beige pots for that long unless they are climbing on them and tipping them over.

people (especially women) do not give ONE DAMN about what they inflict on children and I defy anyone to prove me wrong

Dysfunctional relationships almost always have a child. The more dysfunctional, the more children. The selfish wants of adults outweigh the needs of the child.

That one infuriated me. There were so many mistakes here.

The museum opts to make their exhibits accessible, which means they don't like to have them behind glass. If that's going to be your policy, you should probably have a minimum age limit to ensure that things like this don't happen. It's not like we can go back to the bronze age and make another jar.

I've also noticed that most museums these days cater to hyperactive children by having replicas and interactive exhibits they are encouraged to touch. Because of this, children don't learn museum etiquette, and are thus even less prepared to keep their hands to themselves. (Even when I was a kid I would have loathed these types of dumbed down "touch me" displays because I enjoyed reading the descriptions and looking at the exhibits and feeling like an adult.)

Combine ancient pots in easy reach with children who don't know how to behave, throw in a little bit of parental inattentiveness, and you're bound to have things like this happen. However, it seems the museum doesn't take its mission of curating the past seriously, since they gave them a free return visit. That just encourages feral behavior, rewarding someone for misbehaving.

I'm so sick of all this bubble wrapping and lack of accountability.

I read about this a few weeks ago on the main reddit and almost everyone had an "aw shucks" attitude to what the brat did, saying it was "just some old jar anyway"

Why the museum had it out in the open I will never understand
How sad. A piece of historical importance was destroyed because some stupid kid got his dirty meathooks onto it. Then the famblee gets rewarded with a free visit? Ummm...okay. That's just fucked up on so many levels I don't have the words to convey how I feel about this at the moment.

I think that if kids are allowed to roam free (I agree with Yurble, I loved visiting traditional museums when I was a kid because I felt like I was an adult just being there) I'd just put out replicas of all the breakable stuff so if some ferals come in, it's no biggie. They'd just have to remove the "Made in China" sticker off the bottom and bango, nobody would be the wiser.
