Another reason to not have kids: you never know if you will send them to school one day and then get a call that some psychotic brat blew their head off in a place where they SHOULD be safe.

Or you find out your kid just rampaged through their school and ended multiple lives.

Or you're a teacher who isn't paid nearly enough to deal with the shit in your daily work grind and some asshole kid storms in and shoots you because you exist.

More details are emerging about this case, but some key points I have seen over the last couple days include:

  • Daddy bought the assault rifle and alleges the brat did not have unsupervised access to it (well clearly he DID if he took the fucking thing to school with him)
  • Duh let the kid use the gun, knowing full well he was a threat
  • Kid was obsessed with the Parkland shooting and even had an online Russian username that translated to "Adam Lanza"
  • The kid made threats to shoot up the school last year and the police got involved, but they decided there was no real threat and/or the threats could not officially be linked to the kid
  • Duh will be facing second-degree murder charges, involuntary manslaughter charges and cruelty to children charges and could get up to 180 years in prison. We can probably thank the Ethan Crumbley case for the landmark decision to start punishing parents for their kids' murder sprees
  • Junior is being tried as an adult
  • The brat's aunt sided with him and defended his actions online, implying people need to be understanding of his alleged mental illness and "everything he has been through." She also made vague threats that have since been deleted.

Only days after the deadliest school shooting in Georgia’s history, the 14-year-old suspect made his first court appearance on Friday on four charges of felony murder.

In a community now awash in grief and shock, questions have swirled about what could have motivated the teenager to open fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., on Wednesday morning.

The youth, who was a student at the school, is accused of killing two students and two teachers. On Thursday, his father was also arrested and charged with second-degree murder and other crimes in connection with the shooting. He appeared in court on Friday, shortly after his son. Both father and son will remain jailed without bail.

Officials say that a “complex investigation” is ongoing, and that they may file additional charges.

Here is what we know.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, and barely a month into the new school year, gunfire erupted on the campus of Apalachee High School, which is roughly 50 miles from downtown Atlanta.

The shooter used a black AR-15-style semiautomatic rifle, according to arrest warrants. The four killings happened within minutes.

Law enforcement officials said that the suspect surrendered to school resource officers and was taken into custody.

At the sound of gunshots, the school went into lockdown. The locked classroom doors, as well as a newly installed alarm system, may have helped to prevent further bloodshed, officials said.

Some students said that they had huddled quietly in their classrooms for more than an hour, and many had left their phones behind when they eventually evacuated, making it hard for them to connect with anxious family members. Traffic snarled around the school as parents scrambled to find their children.

The authorities said that the students who died were Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and that the educators were Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie.

Mason was described by friends of his family as a lighthearted teenager who liked reading, telling jokes and playing video games. Christian’s sister Lisette Angulo described her brother as “a very good kid” who was “sweet and so caring.”

Ms. Irimie was a math teacher. She came to the United States from Romania as a member of a dance troupe nearly three decades ago, according to her friends and family members, and was devoted to her students at Apalachee.

Mr. Aspinwall was a math teacher, too, and he also served as the school football team’s defensive coordinator. The players called him “Coach A” and described him as supportive and uplifting. He had two young daughters.

At least nine other people were injured in the shooting. Law enforcement officials said that those who had been taken to the hospital were expected to make a full recovery.

The teenager’s hearing on Friday, which happened in a courtroom in Winder, lasted less than 10 minutes. He appeared alongside a public defender, Zane Harmon, who told the judge that there was no request for bond.

The police have found evidence that the youth was interested in mass shootings, particularly the 2018 massacre at a high school in Parkland, Fla., according to two law enforcement officials briefed on the investigation.

Relatives suggested that he had a troubled home life. Charlie Polhamus, the teenager’s maternal grandfather, said he believed his grandson was responsible for what happened but also cast some of the blame on the tumult in the teenager’s life with his father, who had split from Mr. Polhamus’s daughter. “My grandson did what he did because of the environment that he lived in,” Mr. Polhamus said.

In May of last year, F.B.I. officials were alerted to some disturbing messages on Discord, a social media platform: Someone in a chat group had threatened to possibly “shoot up a middle school.”

A report from the Jackson County sheriff’s office, obtained by The New York Times, said that an email associated with the Discord user who had made the threat belonged to the suspect. The report detailed how investigators looked into it but were unable to definitively link the threats to the boy, then 13, who denied that he had been the author.

At the time, his father, Colin Gray, told an investigator that he and his wife were no longer together and that they had been evicted from their home. The father also told investigators that he had hunting rifles in the house, but that his son did not have “unfettered” access to them, according to a transcript of the May 2023 interview obtained by The Times.

Records from the eviction, in 2022, show that Mr. Gray owned several weapons, including an AR-15-style rifle.

On Thursday, Mr. Gray, 54, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the attack, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

He was also charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and eight counts of cruelty to children.

“His charges are directly connected with the actions of his son and allowing him to possess a weapon,” Chris Hosey, the bureau director, said at a news conference.

When Mr. Gray spoke to investigators last year during the Discord investigation, he said that he was “going to be mad as hell” if his son had made the threats about a school shooting, according to the interview transcript. “Then all the guns will go away,” he added.
There's already been another since then.

I think the Rethugs want kids out of school and into the workforce for the crappy jobs at 12, poor girls knocked up at 13-14 or if they want education then it will be the Christian private school kind for those who can afford it.

I am amazed though that these dumbass teachers, rather than being proactive and buying a gun, learning how and WHEN to shoot, are merely taught and believe to cower in classrooms like sitting ducks. they are the products of the anti gun mentality they are spoon fed through their kawledge years.. when these things happen.. good lord, armed people are going to run into the face of danger to save their cringing assholes. Hell, Israel teaches their educators on guns, and how to use them. these teachers are literally saying they are too stupid to learn how and when to use a gun.

and you have a split couple with daddy trying (as it appears) to be his baby boys 'good buddy' rather than be a parent in an effort to screw over his ex wife.. who seems to have been one to try. as she tried to get help and warn people. also an example of the glaring idiocy of ridding this country of the mental hospitals. I don't know who is more insane: these perpetrators or the goody two-shoe bleeding heart retards who think that average families can handle batshit crazy motherfucking children. to me it's a pity that this fucker is still alive. Personally, he should be shot and his body spiked on a pole in front the school with a sign 'this is what happens to school shooters'. quit the dumbass jockeying over if he's competent. these fuckers know how to play the system and use their crazy to game the system and avoid punishment. if you look at these fuckers, they know right from wrong..and know damn well what they are doing is wrong. everything they say and so afterwards verifies this.

From what I'm seeing as far as updates on the story, the kid's Duh bought him the fucking assault rifle knowing full well the brat made threats to shoot up a school.

Why exactly do civilians have the ability to purchase assault rifles? Not that you can't kill someone with a normal firearm, but what is the practical purpose for someone outside the military to own an assault rifle? Because whenever I see anything about school shootings, assault weapons are almost ALWAYS the firearm of choice. I think even the Columbine shooters were armed with assault rifles. Are these fuckers really outside hunting deer and turkey with assault rifles??

The kid's maternal grandfather said in regard to the Duh that he's an abusive piece of shit and he deserves all the charges and potential jail time being threatened. There also seemed to be an implication that the brat is a product of his upbringing. Apparently his Moo was a junkie and lost custody of him, and his verbally abusive father raised him instead. So he seemed to be doomed from the get-go.

That is no fucking excuse, though. Plenty of people have shit upbringings who don't think it's acceptable to blow the heads off random teachers and classmates. Not that I don't think the Duh shouldn't be charged with something because he provided the murder weapon to the killer, but just that a crappy childhood is not a good reason to haul off and commit mass murder.

I saw that as well. School shootings are a fact of life because we have allowed them to become a fact of life. I legitimately do not remember hearing about them at all before Columbine. Those two boys were the "trendsetters," so to speak. Regarding many school shootings since then, I know a lot of the shooters said they were inspired by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold.

I remember how much everyone freaked out when Columbine happened. Now when kids get shot in school, nobody bats an eye. It shouldn't be this way.

I wonder if we don't arm the teachers because of the possibility that a crazy student could steal the gun and use it to commit a mass shooting? I don't know if classrooms would have safes or other places where a firearm could be kept locked up that was inaccesible to students.

reenie? don't like my pov?? too bad. the only thing this species understands is a hammer over its head. and just what didn't you like anyway... what I have observed of fucking mentals is they demonstrate they know right from wrong goddam well. they just don't want to be punished. so they might listen to their stupid ass voices and pull a stunt..but if they knew that when it was over they'd be on a pole in front of their little stunt.. it would probably make a difference.

As I see more details emerge about the case, it seems Duhddy bought his child an assault rifle on purpose to "toughen him up" and make him into a man or some shit. Well if he wanted his son to man up, he sort of succeeded - Junior is being tried as an adult for murder instead of being sent to juvie and getting the whole thing wiped off his record in a few years.

Also, Daddy is requesting isolation from other inmates in prison due to the sheer volume of threats he has received from his fellow jailbirds. Sorry fucko, that's what you get for giving your dangerous brat a fucking assault weapon.

I guess it’ll blow your mind to know I was a teacher AND a gun owner, and I think that arming teachers is a terrible idea. I’d never carry around students. Too many distractions and too many young hands within arm’s reach. All it takes is one second of divided attention and now a kid, either curious or malicious, has the gun.

I see some other kid - an 11-year-old - made a fake threat to shoot up his school this week, complete with a photo of weapons (that I think were airsoft guns) and a hit list. But then backpedaled and went, "Ohhh just jokin' teehee!"

Fucker got arrested and was made to do a walk of shame in handcuffs because the cops are getting fed up with the fake violence threats and they wanted to make an example of him. The police went on to say basically if breeders can't be arsed to raise their kids, the chief will raise them instead and it won't be pretty.

I'm sure the parents will bitch to the media or sue the police department, and I wouldn't be surprised if they claim their darling little angel is autistic and "didn't know any better." Well if your brat doesn't know better at the age of eleven to not make fucking threats to commit mass murder - even as a joke - then you have failed as a parent and need to do better.
