thom, way back in an english class, not sure what grade it was, we studied this poem and compared to an actual chainsaw accident where the injury was the same. sometimes there is practicality and people do not have the 'luxury' of grieving and letting necessary chores go. Take a farmer with livestock. They still have to be fed. It may not be an accident, but whatever the loss, they have to be cared for.. and then time set aside for grieving.

This woman doesn't have normal emotions. She sounds kind of sociopathic and the fact that she's doubling down on it makes her even worse.

also, and this is something of a double edged sword, shaming and shunning had its place. many times it also would extend to the children as well.. maybe unfair but it also would drive home lessons to the dumb ass mootard, if it was the mootard who began things. if people would just shun her.. give her no audience.. on some it might have an impact.
