Officials are now refuting the witness claim that the "hero" father propped his child up on the rail for a photo op. Instead, they say the child fell after climbing the rail while her parents were playing shuffleboard "nearby."
Current version of the story (beware bad writing, lol)
I don't know which story to believe, but I will say I don't think the new version makes it particularly better. Propping your kid on a potentially deadly drop is fucking stupid, but leaving your child unsupervised near a potential deadly drop while you play games is fucking neglect. This child is just amazingly lucky that the ship's crew was well trained and did their jobs quickly and well, because no matter how it happened her parents let her down (no pun intended).

I think between the two parents their iq barely made it into triple digit territory.
