Today I was at the bank and the bank employees were talking about school and the doctor's appts. needed. Apparently, it is now a requirement for all kids to provide an official doctor's note that verifies they're immunized. Every year!
I asked them if they had to make an appointment for each of their kids to see the doctor before the school year starts and they said yes, and it isn't just for immunizations either.
When I went to school I had to provide proof of MMR vaccine (tetanus? heps?) before entering kindergarten and that was about it. When switching schools I vaguely recall my mom had an immunization card for me and the school would probably make a copy of it and add it to my file. It was a one-time doctor expense.
I guess it could vary depending on the state but the requirements are much more stringent than when I was a kid.
Really happy to be childfree so I don't have to take time off work every year for all the back-to-school nonsense doctor's appointments, in addition to all the other back to school stuff (supplies, shopping). Oh, and now there is a day prior to school starting dedicated for kids to obtain their tech so parents have to usher them to this in addition to whatever else (this seems to be area-specific though).
The only good news from this is that there are now vaccines (chicken pox/flu/etc.) which didn't exist when I was a kid.
