One of my cousins was raised with what I guess now is called "gentle parenting." Back then we just described it as "never getting in trouble" or "zero consequences." He knew no matter what he did he wouldn't get in any real trouble, so he would just do whatever he wanted (including destroying other people's stuff) and then give some lame ass excuse when he inevitably got busted. "I thought they'd like it better this way" after scribbling all over something, that sort of thing. It didn't matter if somebody saw what he did, because it's not like there'd be consequences for him.
