I will never not be amused by the advice to "leave something important like a purse or wallet with your child so you don't forget them." Like shouldn't the
child be the important thing??
I will always question hot car deaths because parents will remember other shit, but somehow, conveniently forget their kids. They could forget any number of things: forget their wallet, their shoes, their glasses, to brush their hair, to wear matching socks. But the thing they always forget is their kids. And if they are so impaired from exhaustion that they can forget a whole human being in the car for hours, why are they driving? Severe sleep deprivation is on par with drunk driving.
Also, why is it parents only ever forget their kids in cars in the hottest months of the year? Why doesn't mommy brain strike in the spring, fall or winter? Why is it always when the temperatures can reach deadly levels inside vehicles? This seems highly suspicious to me.
And in the case of this particular Moo, the article says all three kids attended the same daycare. The oldest two managed to get safely dropped off. So how did she manage to drop off two of the kids, but not the third one? Apparently her reasoning was sometimes she would bring the youngest one in separately and sometimes she'd bring all three in at once. She forgot her kid, but she remembered his diaper bag.
Even if it was an "accident," she should still face charges. Assuming she didn't fry the kid on purpose and it really was an accident, it should still be cruelty to children or neglect. Maybe not murder (again, assuming it was not, in fact, intentional), but something. Allowing a child to succumb to heat death should not just be overlooked.
