Mother keeps ‘praying’ for me.

At this point, it is incredibly obnoxious.

I think I fully decided to be CF around 17-18 and told my mother to stop expecting grandchildren from me. Mind you, I have two other brothers in their 30’s-40’s who have had children of their own, and she complains about each and every one of those grandchildren.

You’d think she’d be relieved, right?

Nope.

“I pray to God you change your mind!”
“You and your s/o’s children would be beautiful!”
“You’re doing university for a high paying job for children, right?”
“Oh, you’re tired from classes and work? Well, be grateful you don’t have kids.”

The first and last statements PMO so hard. I work two jobs and do uni full time. Idk how many times I’ve told her please stop praying for me because I’ve left the Catholic faith and fully intend on getting sterilized as soon as I’m able to, but she just fucking SHRUGS and is like “Only God can tell” and “things change.” What’s worse is she’s a smoker and has been since she was 15 (she’s 57 now) and keeps saying shit like “I promise to the Lord that if YOU have children, I’ll stop smoking for the rest of my life!”

Why not do that for your other grandkids???? Smh.

The comments give her a buncha advice, but I'd likely just say "Ever think Jesus has other plans for me? That's why I'm not having kids, he's getting me ready for something else?"

I have to say I had a single friend that always lamented she wasnt married and didnt have kids, I was so tired of it, considering she got involved w/ shit guys I had to hear about and wasnt allowed to say anything, otherwise she'd get miffed. She was also religious (but only when it was convenient to her), so I finally said one day, "Maybe God has other plans for you" She shut right up, actually looked like she was seriously considering what I said, and by golly, she never ever brought the married w/ kids lament up again. 20 yrs later, She's still not married nor has kids, and she did get a better job but really didnt do much w/ her life, but at least I got her to STFU.

Another thing I'd say to the Grandmoo wanna-be above, "Things do change, like they changed for you, you thought your daughter would bear you more grandkids, but that isnt happening, accept that things change from what we expect, they just dont change for me(the CF daughter)" or "This is what God wants for me evidently" These breeders really do want surprise oopsie accidents to change people's lives and veer them off tract. I cant imagine having a daughter w/ 2 jobs and university and not just be proud of her for being a productive member of society. But what do I know, I'm not a moommy.

These people who think it's god's will are the same ones who think IVF is just fine. It's never god's will that someone is sterile, right?

tl;dr, the "god's will" crowd are nuts.

Or that it's against God's will to pursue fertility treatments/IVF. Like if Sky Daddy made someone unable to breed and they try to force reproduction, isn't that disobeying him? And since it's for the purpose of having children, it won't be confessed as a sin, which will lead to judgment.

Or is this one of those many convenient loopholes Catholics love so much?
