Here is a comprehensive writeup on "poverty" in America. It's not what you think!

Really interesting article, Law. I hope they update it as I'm curious on the stats in our current economic climate.

I do too! What struck me about the NBC fearmongering piece (this could be YOU! So give to the poor you selfish rich asshole!) is that none of the people in the special were starving. No one was underweight from missing a meal. No one's teeth were dropping out from malnourishment; on the contrary, MOST of them were fat or at least festively plump, and one kid even has diabetes. If anything, these people have too MUCH food.

No one was dying in this town from poverty. I saw some designer clothes. Compared to some of the people living in rural India, these people live like kings.

If I have EVER saw an uber skinny poverty stricken anyone, they were on meth. They are all OVERWEIGHT like you wouldn't believe. Starving my ass.

Oh, now that pissed me right off. By that standard I'm less than poor as I don't own my home or have a dishwasher. And that's retarded. I'm not poor, I'm resoundingly middle class. I KNOW this. I've been poor. Without running water or electricity poor.

At least some measure of the "shrinking middle class" is a gross mis-definition of what is middle class.

Kids used to share bedrooms. They were lucky if they had a car to share. Everything wasn't name brand and most people didn't wear or own designer items. What the hell is wrong people?

Its too early to get this jaded.

This article is from The Heritage Foundation. From their own website:

Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institution—a think tank—whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

I saw a first today- a younger woman on the side of the road, with a sign like "3 kids no job please help"

I felt bad - you know she was getting gross sexual propositions all day long - but I got my own fuckin' problems to solve before I give handouts to breeders.

I saw a man out on the sidewalk, with a sign that said, "will work for dog food". I didn't stop, but I give him credit. Not the "I'm a poor, irresponsible breeder, cater to meeeeeeee!!".

I only give to charities that have independent oversight and can give me an account of how my money is spent. smiling

It's more honest. Good advice.
