ChildFree Restaurants
October 19, 2010
I hope I'm putting this in the right forum..if not then sorry mods!

I think we need to make a list of child free or child UNfriendly restaurants so that when we travel, we know where to eat without being harangued by tons of kids and their low class trash parents.

I will start by adding 2 places, Gaslight Brewery in South Orange, NJ and Wildflowers in New Hope, PA.

Gaslight doesn't have many kids in there at all. The owner is very child free and no kids allowed at the bar at any time! smiling smiley

Wildflowers has a sign posted at the front that after 6 p.m., NO CHILD under 7 years old will be seated in their restaurant! grinning smiley Unfortunately, Wildflowers is closing for the winter (they always do) and will open in the middle of April for the spring, summer and fall seasons next year.

I checked out the Wildflowers site and it looks gorgeous. I would love to go but unfortunately it's over two hours from my school. Less than an hour from my home in NJ though.

Unfortunately I haven't been to a restaurant in a while where there hasn't been at least a couple of children. sad smiley

There are NO safe places that I can add in my area or in much of the Southern United States, for that matter. Although we have some fine dining restaurants, children are ALWAYS welcome. We even have bars-restaurants and at any given time of the day or night there will be CHILDREN sitting in there while most everyone is done eating and into the drinking phase of the evening. Most sports bars let kids in as do the club houses at dog and horse tracks and casino restaurants, even though the posted legal age to enter the damned places is either 19 or 21, depending on which place. They make exceptions for the restaurants though, so you could see toddlers in casino restaurants at 3AM down in Biloxi, the dog tracks in Alabama, or in the horse track restaurants in Kentucky. NO restaurant is "childfree" at any of the Gulf Coast beach resorts either. There's even a nude beach down south where children are allowed.

The south is the breeder capitol of the world, or at least it sure seems that way! I had lunch at a Ritz Carlton one time years ago and there were kyds in there! Same thing at a fancy French place with a piano bar and a huge white marble dance floor in Atlanta where the menu didn't have prices and a bottle of wine cost over $100. There were two or three tables with famblees in there, but they didn't arrive until after I did or I would have walked out. If there IS such a restaurant in the south, then I have overlooked it.

If you're going to do this, it might be a good idea to create it in Google maps. You could use one color for the good places, and another for the hellholes. That way it would be easy for someone to check by location, and also for a list to be maintained.

I can't really offer any input though. Children are not as big of an issue in restaurants here; they tend to mostly behave.

I just read in my paper that this church has opened up a coffee shop in our downtown area and they have made it entirely 18+ which I thought was really progressive of them. I'm not churchy but I might have to stop and check it out since not only will it be nice to have a cup of coffee with no screaming banshees nearby but also to let businesses know that childfree establishments are a great business idea. They wanted to create a business where adults could hang out and not be overrun by kids/teens. I still be they cave on this though.

There was an article about it on the local paper's website and while there is the standard howling and lowing: Why can't I bring my kyyydss if I keep them under control?... Of course there are a lot of comments in support of this idea. Hopefully other businesses in the area can take note.
Re: ChildFree Restaurants

I am not churchy either, but I love this idea and would support it.

As for the article...because everyone knows you won't control the kids. And that is why they are not welcome. Ever.

I want to pick up a bus full of unruly kids and feed them gummi bears and crack, then turn them loose in Hobby Lobby to ransack the place. They will all be wearing T shirts that say "You Could Have Prevented This."

I live in the southern U.S. too and I don't know of any child unfriendly restaurants in my city. One thing I do note is many restaurants have kids eat free nights, most often on Tuesday, so that is a night I definitely don't eat out.

I do hope more places adopt child unfriendly policies, but what will probably happen is if it gets too widespread, the breeders will scream and some elected official anxious for votes will push a law through making it illegal. It has already been done with childfree housing in the U.S., so it will probably spread to other areas of life as well.

They need to remember the childfree do vote.

Good point, however, if BNP's would keep their kids out of adult oriented places (bars, nice restaurants etc.) like real parents or learn to control their children there wouldn't be such a backlash against children in public or the demand for adult only venues.

There was a time when people knew certain places just weren't suitable for kids, now the prevailing attitude is kids should be everywhere. That attitude makes no sense to me at all. The world isn't a giant kindergarten.

It's sad that the only place I can think of where kids are banned is Dave and Buster's - and that's after 10 p.m. only.
Re: ChildFree Restaurants
October 21, 2010
I fucking WISH the Dave & Buster's around here would ban the kids after 10 PM. Unfortunately, that's a rule that goes unenforced.

You use the term "BNP" as if to state there are "PNBs."

There are not. They are all breeders. No exceptions.

There's a place in Chicago called "A Taste of Heaven" that isn't CF per se, but will throw out breeders who have unruly children.

Coop's place in New Orleans had a sign out front stating "No Children Allowed" but I don't know if that policy is still in force. It has a full bar so I suspect it's 21+. A nice place though i hear the tourists have taken over.

Yes, go to New Orleans. I think no one under 21 is allowed in establishments that have video poker games. Find those places. Enjoy your CF dining and drinking experience.

I haven't been down there since right before Katrina, but the last time that I went there were kyds at the Harrah's Casino Buffet and kyds/strollers being pushed up and down Bourbon street and in and around the redlight district at all hours of the night. I saw kyds after midnight running and playing in between the parson's benches that lined the streets where the daytime sidewalk tapdancers pass out drunk with an empty bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 limp in their hand, laying their head atop a Popeye's chicken box that's doubling as a pillow. I just assumed that like in Biloxi, EVERYWHERE and ANYTIME is "kyd friendly". Maybe I missed the good spots!

It's my dream to have my own resturant one day. I'd love to have it CF, but in my area (W.Va), going completely CF would be a kiss of death since everything here is so family-orientated. If I don't do the 24-hr diner, I want a resturant with a full bar, and I would close it off to kids at 8 PM, giving adults a nice place to eat in peace. And I will sure as hell make sure that your ass will be thrown out if you can't keep your kyds in line.

Maybe you could make it cater to different crowds on different days. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are the main romantic nights, whereas I've noticed Sunday is a big day (at least here) for family nights out. So you could have it lit for romantic meals three nights, have it for everyone on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, and then be closed Wednesday to clean up after all the brats to make it romantic again winking smiley

When I was growing up there was a local pizza place/bar and one night a week they made it smoke-free and open to families. It seemed to work out pretty well.

I was in a Ruby Tuesdays a couple of weeks ago, sitting in the bar area to avoid kids, and the unthinkable happened: I heard a
terrible noise, and looked up to see a girl about six years old, hopping through the area, right by my table, while uttering a ridiculous
sound. I got up and went to the entrance to get away, then she hopped by the salad bar, coming right at me. She was old enough to know better, and I believe the parent was a man in the bar who also had an infant. It really should be against the law for anyone
under eighteen to enter the bar area. It's insane that parents have decided it's a place for their kids, because they don't need that
exposure, and because adults need a place to go where they won't be bothered by them. Maybe if we start posting messages about
how detrimental it can be for kids to be in any kind of bar, something will be done about it. The government, etc., might not care about
whether or not people can enjoy their meals, but they might care about looking out for kids. So we could get our way by going
through the back door.

The only one in Indianapolis that I am aware of is Daddy Jack's.. 96th and Meridian.
www.konajacksindy.com

Their sister restaurant, Kona Jack's is next door. Daddy Jack's has Apres' Jack's, a Cigar Bar and music in the back room.
"Reservations accepted but not required!
• No more than eight separate checks per table, please.
• By law, children under the age of 18 are not permitted at Daddy Jackʼs." (Thank God)

You wouldn't believe the number of breeders who are horrified that their little angels aren't welcome!

I try to look for places around here that still allow smoking, since they're 18 up. I don't smoke but I'd rather eat around smokers than children. One of my favorites is The Vortex in Atlanta. Yummy bar food and it's vegetarian friendly.

A few more places I can think of in Atlanta:

Viande Rouge Steakhouse (never been, so can't vouch for the food)
http://www.vrsteakhouse.com/
The Earl
http://badearl.com/content/menu
Graveyard Tavern
http://www.graveyardtavern.com/

Hmm. Chattanooga has Pickle Barrel, and I think Fox and Hound is still adults only.

You'd think Underground Atlanta with all of their cool shops and bars would be mostly kid free, but the last time I went there(05) it was crawling with brats.:complaining about a brat

You would think so! But last time I went to Underground Atlanta it was overrun with "families". Don't see many kids in Little Five Points though.
