I think this may have been nasty attempt to undermine the hostess. What better way to sabotage someone else.

I agree, family or not, the chick with the brats has issues. They should have been left home, tied to a kitchen chair and gagged.

My mistake, mother of the brats was not family. She was obviously jealous of the hostess - what better way to ruin someone's evening and not be resposible for it? Send your brats to do the dirty work. Very obvious. Thank heavens the hostess's sister and BIL were there to help out.
