why are they so obsessed with being thin, of course they will never blame the obesity hysteria for making people more and more self concious about weight, inevitably driving a few to death like these hideous looking women(i hate too skinny looking women the ones who arent real)

A fashion model who lived on a diet of apples and tomatoes has died from kidney failure on the eve of a photographic shoot.

Ana Carolina Reston resisted admitting she had anorexia

Ana Carolina Reston, 21, who had been modelling since she was 13, weighed six stone.

The 5ft 7in Brazilian was due to travel to France to work but instead spent the last three weeks of her life in hospital. Her death comes amid fears that designers are still using size zero models suffering from anorexia despite calls that they should be banned because they encourage eating disorders in young women.

The trend for size zero models – equivalent to a British size four – began as a fad in Los Angeles. Miss Reston died in San Paolo on Tuesday. She is the second anorexic model to die this year. Luisel Ramos, 22, suffered a heart attack in August after living on lettuce leaves and Diet Coke for three months.

Relatives said Miss Reston had resisted admitting she was ill. Geise Strauss, 30, her cousin, said: "When she did eat, she ate very little and she'd go to the bathroom and make herself sick as soon as she left the table. She liked apples and she adored tomatoes but that was about it."

Viviane Setti, the mother of Miss Reston's boyfriend, said: "Ana's death should serve as a wake-up call to all modelling agencies about anorexia. There's nothing glamorous about an ending like hers."

Last month, specialists at the eating disorders service and research unit at King's College, London, wrote to the British Fashion Council criticising the use of super-thin models who are "clearly anorexic".

This is so sad. No amount of money or fame is worth what these girls do to themselves. The worst thing about it is that the industry encourages it. Things seem to be getting a little better, but it's going to be a long time before we see healthy looking girls on the runway. It's not a fad in L.A., it's a way of life. Anyone larger than a size two is considered fat.

Unfortunately, I don't think much will change either. The fashion industry, media, and entertainment industry are obsessed with thinness. Anyone who would have been considered thin or average weight 20 years ago is considered "fat" by today's standards. If you look at movies from the 1980s, you'll see what I mean. The actresses were not stick-thin like they are today.

In the minds of most actresses and models, being anorexic is better than being fat. Nobody in that industry cares if a few models die, or if ordinary teenage girls develop eating disorders. Sad but true.

It's the same reason a lot of women chain-smoke. The cigarettes keep them from eating too much, and they'd rather get cancer than be fat.

it should be be happy the skin your in, self confidence, if you think you are ill, you will be but if you feel good in yourself, you will be better, i an fat, i am happy and content in my life, and i have only had 3 throat infections in the last 8 years.. nothing else.

self worth comes from within, or should, these poor models have no self worth they just see themselves via the camera, curvy women are sexier, and healthier in my opinion,

Oh if only it were so simple. However, no one makes money off happy people, and that's pretty much the bottom line.

exactly, it took me years to realise that i was me, i didnt have to be stick thin to be worthwhile, and this is a male talking, how hard must it be for women, then the diet industry makes i think 30-60 billion dollars a year, and so on...

if YOU want to lose weight then ok, just know your own motivations, i lost a good friend due to dieting, she was lively bubbly, full of life and had fun, but she got involved with weight watchers, and she lost weight, but then she became more and more paranoid about her weight, and everyone elses as well, she eventually decided that i wasnt such a good friend. and so it ruined her personality, she became neurotic. i realised all she needed to do was realise she can only be herself, fat or thin, smart or dumb.. then i discovered it in myself as well.. i am content within myself, i am happy being my size. and i beleive that stops a lot of illnesses from happening to me, when i get down, as i do i get ill, but when i am happy i rarely get ill
