Fertility 'crusader' unmasked as a fraud who stole £200,000

The founder of an online company which delivers sperm to women desperate to become mothers has been exposed as a fraudster.

Despite his claims to be a "crusader for women's rights", John Gonzalez stole nearly £200,000 from the financial backers of his Man Not Included website.

He used the money to fund a lavish lifestyle while his customers put up with shocking service – such as receiving the sperm in dirty coffee flasks.

Yesterday Gonzalez pleaded guilty to two counts of fraudulent trading, one of financial misconduct, one count of forgery and one count of perjury relating to his attempts to cover up his crimes.

Sentencing the 45-year-old to 16 months in prison, Judge Juliet May, QC, said he had "siphoned off thousands of pounds" in a "sustained course of fraudulent conduct".

When it launched in April 2002, Mannotincluded.com Ltd attracted an avalanche of controversy and was dubbed "Morals Not Included".

Aimed at single women and lesbian couples, the site charged women up to £2,000 to have sperm and insemination equipment delivered to their door.

Critics claimed the company – which avoided regulation by dealing in fresh rather than frozen sperm – undermined the importance of the family.

To make matters worse, it was claimed a lack of proper virus screening meant that would-be mothers might be exposed to diseases such as Aids.

One former customer claimed she received her sperm in an unwashed coffee flask. Another claimed it was delivered to her door in a minicab.

Two former employees said women were given sperm from a donor with none of the physical characteristics they had specifically requested.

Despite the litany of concerns, Gonzalez claims he attracted more than 5,000 customers – some 20 of whom he has claimed got pregnant as a result.

But yesterday Wood Green Crown Court was told that by February 2003, the twice-married father of four was taking thousands of pounds a month out of the company which should have been used to pay back its numerous creditors.

Prosecutor Andrew Marshall said that Gonzalez routinely wrote himself, his wife and another friend company cheques for £1,000 or £2,000 – making a total of £103,000.

In December 2004 Gonzalez illegally liquidated the company but simply reopened it under a slightly different name, using the same website, staff, offices and equipment.

Again, he raided the new firm's accounts, taking £82,600 in bogus payments for "royalties" and "recruitment fees".

The judge also disqualified Gonzalez from being a company director for five years and started confiscation proceedings to claw back the money he stole.

Mm yes, and since mothers are, of course, ONLY concerned with the health of their future lab-experiments, this line here disproves unequivocally the realities of those claiming to only care about the health of the kid, not its looks:

Any woman who is willing to put an unknown liquid that she ordered off the internet into her vagina does not deserve that vagina, and certainly shouldn't be allowed to have children, as she's obviously too stupid to raise them.
