Public streets for kyds only apparently - rant

I live down the block from a school, it has never been a problem as long as I don't try to walk my dog within 15 minutes of school letting out. I'm in Manhattan so it's hard to find an area that doesn't have a school or park or tutoring center and reasonable rent.

I had to take my current foster kitty for a checkup with the vet yesterday afternoon. One of the perks of freelancing is that I can make appointments during weekdays and avoid waiting rooms full of unsupervised brats. This particular cat loathes being in a moving carrier, so it's a race to get to the vet before the stress aggravates her breathing condition.

So I get the kitty loaded up and walk out the door to find hordes of chyldren walking down both sides of the street. I have seen the kyds being escorted to a nearby playground but never more than 1 class, taking up one sidewalk. A teacher askes me if I could wait until the kyds all pass, she was polite about it and I didn't want to drag an elderly, ill, stressed out cat through hundreds of brats, so I walk back into my lobby and wait. After 10 minutes, the hordes hadn't stopped and I wasn't going to be late, so I walked back out, cut through the kyds and start walking down the middle of the street with parked cars and plenty of space between me and the kyds on both sides. Some bitchy teacher starts screaming at me saying I needed to wait in my building, because clearly I'm going to grab and molest some brat in front of hundreds of people in the middle of a street. I asked her if she had a permit to shut the street down and if not to fuck off. A couple of people started coming out of the buildings and walking behind me and this bitch kept on screaming at us since we all should stay away from the pwecious chyldren and it shouldn't matter we have places to be and it's a fucking public street.

I'm very non-confrontational but telling that woman to fuck off was very satisfying.

The NERVE, to think they assumed they had the right to close the street and not allow tax paying citizens to go about their business because KYDS! How idiotic that an adult can't be permitted to cross the street where chyldren are because any adult in the area is immediately a perv suspect rather than someone who needs and has the right to walk down the street.

I am glad you yelled at her and that other people came out and crossed the street also. They can't possibly have the right to force people into their buildings like that. Disgusting.

I hope you write to the school district and complain. That is beyond absurd.

Unemployed, useless little paperweights are worth FAAAAR less than actual taxpaying citizens, and if they didn't have the courtesy to make special arrangements they can all just fuck off and die in a fire.

And yeah to what stillwaters says. Letter to the district, letter to the editor, online review somewhere, all of the above and any more you can think of.

Can't believe the kind of egos these kids are going to have growing up with the entire world making way and applauding them just for existing....
Once you're 18 and no long a minor, it's a whole different world!

Please write letters of complaint to every agency and institution you can think of.

I love that you told her to fuck off within clear earshot of the pwecious chyuldrun! And I love that no one climbed all over you for it; instead, they came out of their buildings too, tired of being told what to do!

Maybe this was successful because it's NY; there are places where I've lived that if I'd have dared to defy such a directive, the commmuuuuuuuuuunity would have gotten in my face and stood up for the teacher. Although I've never heard of teachers giving the public orders like this, either.

The nerve to expect people to clear the way for any length of time is so entitled, so rude, but more than 10 minutes?

Did she say it was her worries over molestation and kydnapping, or was she just in general expecting everyone to stay in their buildings while the Royalty makes its procession?

When she screams at citizens on the chyuldrun's behalf, right in front of them, she's just teaching them that they're some kind of extra speshul and that others need to accommodate them at all times.

good grief, kyds these days are so spayshul they need the road shut down for them? I would have done the same, my life doesn't stop because some school decided to take their brats on a school trip.

It's extra ironic because most of these kyds get to school using public transit by themselves. There are schools that do close the road to car traffic during dismissal time and recess, but I've never seen a street closed to pedestrians. Kitty has to go back to the vet next Monday around the same time again, so it better just be a one time thing or I will get around to complaining.

Bitch is screaming at you for walking in a public way? And there are children in her charge all about? That's about the time my voice goes to freight train level, hollering, robotically, "What was that, you ripe fucking cunt rag? Did you fucking say I should .... What was that, you ripe fucking cunt rag?" etc.

I'm surprised she expected that shit to fly in NYC with no complaint.
