Look at HOW UGLY that guy is too!!! I try not to be 'looks -ist' - but in the case of these people, I will make an exception. What, he couldn't get his teeth fixed or a decent hair cut?
But of course The Bible says humans have dominion over animals - so I guess abusing them is OK in their book

So, on my aches and pains - I was having some high hopes that a Kosher diet actually *meant something* or could *help me* - somehow. Like maybe there's a reason for some of the dietary restrictions. For the health or something ~ maybe The Ancients knew something ~
WRONG. Do you know why you aren't supposed to eat shell fish? Because that's not a good fish "form"! It doesn't LOOK like something G_d would design - proper fish swim and have fins - they don't *look like* or *act like* a Lobster which creeps rather than swims.

It also has to do with the fact that many shellfish were totem animals of the gods of some of the pagan cultures that surrounded the Hebrews. It's a common taboo not to eat the totem animal of your enemies - it makes you "unclean."
The same thing is true of pigs, a common totem animal to the Caananites. It's the real reason that pork is verboten in Jewish dietary law.

Iamwas Jewish and we were never all that religious. Was shoved into a Reform Temple as a kid. This is very 'lite' as far as religion goes, you won't be studying any Theology or Ancient History or anything like that. Maybe the Rabbis did in school, but for the average congregant - yeah, they're lite on all that. From what I remember, what was important was Casino Nite!

The kosher diet may have been about health back in the day. There were diet restrictions in all the religions of "the book", and I know pork back in the day of Jesus had serious health risks. Nowadays, the restrictions make no sense. The religions need to get with the times as animals at least here are kept in a manner where we will not be exposed to the same issues as our goat heard minding worshipers.
Then again, I bow to those who know more.
