I recently visited an ob-gyn specialist since I'm dealing with the first stage of menopause and all of the crap that comes with it. The doc asked if I ever had kids. I told her no. She asked if it was because I was infertile (which would have health implications) or by choice. I told her by choice. She was very non-judgmental and professional. She told me matter of factly that women who do not have children have a higher risk of cervical, ovarian and breast cancer because we do not receive the prophylactic benefits of progesterone from the pregnancy. I didn't say it out loud, but I thought, "Well, have a lower risk of poverty, fatigue, stress, anger, depression, and being convicted of homicide by not having kids." LOL.
