Shays have no shame: Source: Boozing sis gives up bro, loses baby to DSS

Thomas Shay’s not-so-loving older sister, Paula Shay, led authorities to her cop-killing, cross-dressing brother after allegedly choking another sibling during a booze-fueled family circus that brought Quincy cops to the Shay family manse three times in two hours Sunday night, sources told the Herald.

“I can give you something big if you let me keep my baby,” the sources said Shay, 38, told Quincy cops Sunday night as authorities considered whether to take her 2-month-old son, who is now in DSS custody.

“Are you talking about your brother,” asked a Quincy police officer, according to a source.

Shay reportedly replied, “I can serve him up to you on a silver platter.”

The yearlong manhunt for Thomas Shay ended the next morning after Quincy police officers Bruce Tait and Steve Kelly arranged for U.S. marshals to find cop-killer Thomas Shay, sought for a series of alleged probation violations.

A Quincy police source described how cops arrested an increasingly intoxicated and suicidal Paula Shay, 38, on assault charges and coaxed her to cooperate with authorities.

“She was being a real pain in the ass,” a police source said of Paula Shay, who allegedly reeked of beer.

In a scene replete with Addams family values, Amy Lenar, 42, called the cops to say Paula was boozing in front of her 2-month-old son, Nicholas Shay, prompting cops to file a 51A complaint with the Department of Social Services. With red marks around her neck, Lenar alleged her little sis had choked her, a source said.

“We felt it was best to take the child first and look at the family later,” DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro said of the agency’s swift action. “And we’re glad we did.”

The family freak show continued, as Paula Shay was one moment complaining of chest pains and the next “was apparently strong enough to kick out the window of a Quincy police cruiser,” the source said.

She then was taken to Quincy Medical Center, where hospital personnel found her tying knots in a bedsheet in an apparent attempt to hang herself, the source said.

As for her ratted-out brother, Thomas Shay was nabbed Monday, as the Herald received a bizarre letter from him taunting the manhunt.

Shay, 35, served a decade behind bars after being found guilty in 1993 of conspiracy and malicious destruction for planting the bomb that killed BPD bomb squad cop Jeremiah Hurley and maimed his partner, Frank Foley.

“He was disappointed that he was not in the U.S. marshal’s top 15 of wanted felons,” a second law enforcement source said of the publicity-craving Shay.

Meanwhile U.S. marshals have identified people who have helped Shay hide and are considering whether to file charges, said marshal Jeff Bohn.
