A German mother and father were sentenced on Wednesday for murdering their 5-year-old daughter Lea-Sophie by starvation.

The Schwerin district court handed both the 24-year-old mother and the 26-year-old father prison time of 11 years and 9 months for child abuse and murder.

"Both of the accused stood by and did nothing while their own flesh and blood wasted away in misery," head judge Robert Piepel said when the verdict was announced. The parents denied their daughter help "that would have been so easy to get," he said.

On November 20, 2007, Lea-Sophie died of dehydration and starvation, having refused food for weeks after her younger brother was born. She weighed just 7.4 kilogrammes (16.3 pounds) - less than half her normal weight - when she died. She was rushed to the hospital with severe deficiency symptoms and bed sores, but died shortly thereafter. An autopsy showed that she died of starvation, dehydration and painful ulcers.

"It should never have gone that far," the mother told the court in the German state of Mecklenberg Western-Pomerania.

During the trial, psychiatric experts said they had discovered clues of personality disorders in both parents, who said didn't seek medical care for their daughter in fear that child services would take her away. The mother also admitted that she had felt ashamed that she struggled to care for her family and household. During the trial it was revealed that the father often used video games to escape his troubles. The family became increasingly isolated as Lea-Sophie's health deteriorated, the court found.

Despite the fact that the family had been reported to child services on numerous occasions, the city faces no charges in Lea-Sophie's death, the court said.

I don't know why they even bother having family services. Every time a kid gets beaten to death, you hear about how "the family was known to family services". So WTF were you doing about it? Jackshit, obviously. Yet they'll take a kid away from a parent that gives it a well deserved backhand. If I could chosse where NOT to spend my tax dollars, I'd start right here.

Our breeder minded society will not even consider sterilizing these assholes. They can birth more and do the same. No laws can or will stop it. In fact, it they volunteered for sterilization, they would probably be asked " Are you sure you want to do this?".

In the original article, the parent appeared to be very young and the mother had the nerve to be in tears. How did this unholy union go down? "Hey, I'm crazy- you're crazy, let's have kids."

Family Services is the most useless organization I can think of. Our tax dollars hard at work. Most of the counselors are a bunch of self-righteous snobs who seem to do exactly the opposite of what the situation warrants.

Understand this: these assholes should be sterilized. period.
child protective services: they cannot keep up because the scum are out-breeding them.
it doesn't matter how many kids are removed, because the farking moo can always screw more into existence. I've seen other posts where that is their mindset. "Oh, doesn't matter that baybeee is dead by the tick I picked, I can always have another." No remorse for dead baby, nothing, just their own damn uterous. I'd like to know why the child was not forced to eat. Who gives a flying fuck that she didn't want to eat because she had competition for moomie's attention from a baby brother?! My mother would hae made sure I ate in short order. If nothing else, the parents should be convicted of terminal idiocy.

You shouldn't get flamed, people with mental illness should not have children period, end of story.

I know someone who came from a long line of genetic mental illnesses, he and all of his brothers affected. Mom being too selfish to do anything but follow the breeding script. Now mom and family say "well sons, you just have to deal with the cards life has dealt you."
