Olympian's good sportsmanship is attributed to her being a mom

"Did you see Dara Torres last night go tell one of the refs that another swimmer was having problems with her swim suit? Everyone was amazed at her sportsmanship. I'm not. She's a MOM. Her instinct is help take care of others. And when she won, she turned to Kim Campbell and told her 'Good job'!"

Michael Phelps is said to be a good sport too and a nice guy. He doesn't have kids. How can we possibly explain this bizarre phenomenon?! I'm stumped!

When I think of an athlete who is the worst sport imaginable, John McEnroe is the first one who comes to mind. He has three children, so why doesn't he have that "instinct" to help people?
I have to say, I admire Dara Torres for being her age (41) and competing in the Olympics. She is helping to break down the barriers of age discrimination.

But of course, her being a "mom" has nothing to do with anything.

Good! Even better, the Lolita-aged Chinese gymnasts are being cracked down for being extremely underaged, too.eye rolling smiley

And no, moohood doesn't magically make you accomplish fabulous things, either.=P

Oh yes, the only way you learn any skill WHATSOEVER is by being a MAWM.

Wow, we've missed out. I feel so inadequate.

"...She is the first swimmer from the United States to compete in five Olympics: 1984, 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2008.... On August 1, 2007, at the age of 40 (just 15 months after giving birth to her first child), she won gold in the 100 meter freestyle at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis...."

I guess that UP UNTIL May of 2006 when she gave birth, that she had been a bitter, hateful, selfish athlete who exhibited such poor sportsmanship and unbecoming conduct that no one could stand to be around her. eye rolling smiley

I thought the same thing.

Makes one wonder why coaches of little league and high school sports even bother teaching good sportsmanship, if you have to be a parent to "get it."
