Apparently the forced birthers are trying to use this to enact a nationwide ban on abortion even in NY or CA, where it would be illegal to obtain anything that could be used in an abortion, the abortion pill or medical implements used in abortion.

But aren't there natural abortifacients? Efficacy aside, are these people really gonna make plants and herbs like parsley illegal?

Women are gonna die either way - mugwort overdose, coat hanger damage, 'falling' down the stairs - making abortion illegal only makes abortion unsafe, it doesn't stop them from happening.

The Republicans relish returning us to the tenth century.

I wouldn't be surprised if any drugs that are known to cause birth defects or miscarriage are no longer prescribed to women, including chemotherapy. Got cancer before menopause? Sucks to be you! Or maybe herbs won't be outlawed, but they could ban women from buying them and/or make it a crime to possess them or make it a crime to research abortifacent herbs.

But it's all good as far as the morons in charge are concerned because if a woman attempts to terminate a pregnancy on her own and it goes badly, one of two things will happen: she'll die from complications, which they feel she will deserve for being a filthy whore that tried to "murder" her "baby." Or if she lives through it and winds up in the hospital due to complications, charges for murder or attempted murder could be brought against her.

I also question the efficiency of herbal abortion in the first place. I recall learning something about how the first six weeks of pregnancy, the clump lives exclusively off the egg sac, so any substances the woman consumes will not harm it during those six weeks. Meanwhile, I believe SisterZeus.com (herbal abortion resource) advises women to perform herbal abortions before six weeks' gestation. So if the fetus isn't affected by anything the woman consumes (barring medical abortion pills, that is), that would mean that all the "success stories" on the site were just miscarriages that were going to happen whether or not the women used herbs. Not sure what to believe.
