Well, if she's so intelligent, vivacious and a good mother, then why didn't she seek out birth control??? Or have the hubby get snipped?

I was wondering the same thing myself. The only thing I could think of was that maybe East Germany didn't have readily available birth control? But then if hubby didn't want kids, why didn't he buy some condoms?

Until the Polish regime became very strict and Catholic, abortions and contraception was easily obtained. Now...forget it! Cuba and Russia are not pro-life villes at all. However, condoms are extremely costly but abortions are free due to socialist health care so you can imagine what is used the most. What we take for granted in the US, it a rarity overseas.
