Goth who walks fiancée on a leash is banned by bus driver who told him: 'No dogs allowed'

Given that she describes herself as a human pet – and is happy to walk around on a lead – Tasha Maltby is used to odd looks and even odder remarks.

But nothing had prepared her for the reaction of the bus driver who allegedly told the self-styled Goth and her boyfriend: "We don't let freaks and dogs like you on."

Miss Maltby and her fiance Dani Graves were so angered they have complained to the bus company of being "victimised".

Going walkies: Dani Graves and girlfriend Tasha Maltby were allegedly barred from a bus

"It is definitely discrimination, almost like a hate crime," 19-year-old Miss Maltby said yesterday.

The music technology student had this defence of her lifestyle.

"I am a pet, I generally act animal like and I lead a really easy life," she said.

"I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone."

The bus driver, however, has obviously not been listening.

He has repeatedly refused to allow Mr Graves, 25, and his "pet" on to his bus in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

Last month, with Miss Maltby on a leash as usual, the couple tried to board a bus at the bus station.

The driver, who was off duty, was standing near the door.

Mr Graves alleged: "He shoved me off the bus. He called us freaks and he called Tasha a dog.

"He said, 'We don't let freaks and dogs like you on'.

"He basically grabbed my T-shirt and slammed me backwards.

"I got a bit angry and called him a fascist pig."

In a separate incident, police were called when the driver, who has not been named, refused to allow other passengers on board after the couple ignored his orders and sat down.

The couple, who live on benefits in a council house and plan to start a family, have been friends for years.

They started going out together in July and became engaged in November.

Paul Adcock, of bus company Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We take any allegations of discrimination seriously.

"Mr Graves has already contacted us directly and as soon as our investigation has concluded we will inform him of the outcome."

I sort of have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, if this couple wasn't bothering anyone, why should the bus driver care? Their money is just as good as anyone else's. On the other hand, while I have nothing against goths/alternative lifestyles, this whole human pet thing smacks of "I want attention, look how weird I am". When I was around 14 or 15, I would go to punk/gothic shows and see people my age walking each other on leashes in an S&M way; mostly it was to be silly and get a rise out of people. This couple, however is a bit older (I think they are 19 and 25), and it seems like they have some maturing to do before they can even think of raising kids (since the article stated that they want to start a family).

As I stated before, it's not the goth clothing style/music that is the problem here, but the fact that they may be doing this human dog stuff for attention. The article also said they're on benefits. Is it that easy to get welfare in the UK? It seems like that free money is allowing them to stay in this prolonged state of adolescence because they're most likely not working.

I guess they don't have toddler leashes over there, eh?

If a person wants to get attention through their freakish dress, or looks, fine by me, but they can't complain when they get stared at. As long as they're obeying public decency laws and keeping their boobs and balls out of sight, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it. I used to dress like a freak all the time, and still do on occasion. It's fun to play with others, and lots of times I get complimented on being in something "over the top". I don't care if they're laughing at me or with me...as long as I'm making them laugh.

they do.. but he obviouslt dislikes goths or goth types..

One of them is a student.. and the job market in the UK isnt as good as people think.

but to call a woman a dog.

if it harms no one, i havent a problem.. its when people force the idea of conformity onto people thats why i get annoyed and dig my heels in

I didn't realize that about the poor job market in the UK. The article sort of conveyed the idea that they were just not into working or something. I assume it's rather expensive to live there?
Re: a human pet baned from a Bus

yes, the job market is one of the lowest in europe, where i live 5.5 % of people are called unemployed by the government. but that doesnt count the people on other forms of money about 8 million altogether, the government fudge the figures by sending people to "training" which is useless but it gets them off the job list.

and it is very expensive, petrol is over $2 a litre, and 55% of that goes in tax to the government, a pack of 20 cigarettes is $8 minimum.

UK is 'third most expensive country'
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/jan/09/consumeraffairs.personalfinancenews

this will give you an idea on the price of food, and everything else

http://www.tesco.com/todayattesco/pricecheck.shtml just double it and you get dollars.

beef rump steak per KG is $14

old el paso 235 g hot salsa sauce $3.10 and so on..

beer is over $4 for a pint, cider is nearer to $5

a house tax per house is ovr £1200 a year so yoiu have to pay $2400 a year or be locked up in prison. electricity, and gas its high. thats what people forget its not a rich country, because its expensive as well

As stated in above posts, the people were not hurting anyone. My only concern is how so many women debase themselves in this Goth/S&M lifestyle with being the submissive partner. Anyone try to put me on a leash is going to have the fucking thing wrapped around *HIS* neck! The welfare thing also bothers me. It would be different if they lived off of their own money if they had family wealth or whatever. I find it odd in some other countries how easy it is for just anyone to get welfare. We have our own socialism in the States with single moos and that is bad enough!

but it was her choice to wear the collar.. isnt that a pure expression of freedom or liberation, the choice to wear what SHE wants. and live her life how she wants. and if that is to wear a dog collar and leash..

she says its her choice.. ""I don't cook or clean and I don't go anywhere without Dani. It might seem strange but it makes us both happy. It's my culture and my choice. It isn't hurting anyone." are we to deny someone their own choice because we dont agree with it.

she is expressing her freedom of expression, however that turns out to be.

so ame is not ok for a person to wear what they like if they arent rich. i am not allowed to have long hair, or even wear makeup if i want too. if i claim the dole. does that mean only rich people are allowed a freedom of expression.

Why "The welfare thing also bothers me. It would be different if they lived off of their own money if they had family wealth or whatever" are you saying rich people are better and can do anything they wish wear what they wish..??

It is still creepy. We say how the Muslim women are so oppressed even if they choose to cover but have our own bit of submission when it comes to females in Western society via S&M. People have a right to express themselves whether they are on assistance or working. Spending a lot of $$$ for clothing or jewelry/accessories should be questioned since welfare is for the basics. In the States back in the Day, there were inspectors who would go by welfare recipients' apartments to make certain there were not expensive items. Sure...some could claim Grandma got them the new VCR but that $$$ should go for living expenses than luxuries. Another topic altogether...confused smiley

but she chose to live like that.. her choice her decision, it may be creepy to some, but its all about personal responsibility and freedom of expression/of life. if i want to dress in a emerald green ball gown, with stockings and suspenders and it HARMS no one.. should i be told not too. she just happens to like to wear that collar and leash. but how do you know it wasnt a gift from their parents.. or friends or family.. just judging them on what a person wears, and that they shouldnt wear clothes of this type because they should be spending money on other stuff instead.

that goes to the heart of freedom of expression.

i have a suit here the jacket cost me £10 in a charity shop, the jacket is worth £150.. i have a long leather jacket bouht again in a charity shop i have see the same type for over £300 in the shops..(i got it for £10 knocked down from£20)

but if they chose to wear it or chose NOT too.. then thats them but they are brought up under a more regimented lifestyle, they dont know they have a choice. we in the west know the choices we can make.. and if a woman wants to wear it then she can so long as she doesnt allow certain laws be ignored.

so your not allowed to treat yourself. if i live at home, if i save up to visit rowan. if i live off £3 a week while i am saving.. do i not travel to rowans, because its a luxury, what if i buy a ring, thats a luxury.. to give a complete accounting of whats you have and what you need or dont need to live off.

(i give my mum housekeeping to keep me) i buy nail polish.. thats a luxury its not needed for a job is it.. as i am male.. should i be banned from buying stuff i dont NEED. and who decides if i need it or not..

what is a luxury or a need i need books or i will go insane. other people would see them as luxuries..

Well, I think there's a vast difference between "Cover your self from head to toe or we'll kill you slowly and painfully by throwing rocks at you" and "I am freely choosing to allow my partner to lead me around on a leash". Also, there are just as many, if not more, fellows willing to submit themselves to a dominant female partner in the S&M community. Generally however, people keep their S&M relationships to the private confines of their homes, or within clubs and conventions of like minded people.

The problem with cash based welfare, no matter where it comes from, is that people generally have the choice to spend it how they wish. Many people may have different priorities than you, and may find spending it on clothes, cigs or booze preferable to spending it on food. While you and I may find their reasoning completely lacking in sense, it's their life and if they choose to allocate their resources to whatever instead of food, it's no business of mine. I'd much rather pay taxes for regular people's slack than to allow the idle rich, or corporations, more loopholes to get out of paying taxes.

Human beings have a need for slack, just like they have a need for food, air, sleep and sex. Just because someone has inherited scads of money from their hard working ancestors doesn't mean they have any more rights to slack off than the unemployed bum on the street, or the underemployed walmart greeter. They just happen to have more resources to spend on more expensive useless crap.

Amen feh.. i am not a very dominant man in the real world, on occasions i have to be. online i can rant and rave, but in real life i love being told what to do

(its what you get when you have a strong mother, and strong grandma's and a strong wife- well getting stronger- in my family the men have always been subordinate to their wives and mothers for me its a fact of life). i fight for the right to be treated equally.. then if i chose to be dominated and tied up.. then its my decision.. if i am forced into it i fight with everything i am
