Why does it always have to be "someon else" to save the world

Posted by Matush
So I have this bleeding heart liberal co-worker. You know the type. Very educated, very pretentious, constantly complains about the world's ills. So he was bitching today about the hunger crisis and how "WE" should share the wealth with those who are less fortunate. For some reason, that got on my nerves and I asked him "So are you going to donate half your money to saving Darfur" To which he blubbered "I'm too poor" I asked him if he has ever donated anything to charity and he said no because he's poor. For the record, I don't make much more than him and I've made some charitable donations this year.

So why do all the liberal organizations expect someone else to help the world while many liberals themselves sit on their asses or they themselves won't donate a cent. This co-worker of mine says that he wouldn't mind hanging out with homeless people yet I never hear about him spending time at a soup kitchen.

he wants socialism, or communism, but he wants to be one of the elite.

or he wants the government to bail those places out, instead of sustainable growth..

This. This. This. Time doesn't cost money. Instad of wedding presents I asked my guests to bring a bag to the church's food pantry What's thatt - like 5 bucks? Maybe?
One other thing about this co-irker is he is going on about the class elitism in the United States. However, he looks down at all the other junior level people at work (never mind that he's a junior level person himself!). He even makes fun of the receptionist.

It's always easier to blame others for their slacking off, than to actually focus on your own life and actually do what you personally can do.

I have a friend who works in a print shop. He does a lot of free lay out and printing for various community events. However, he has also acts like he has given up on having a personal life. He misses shows and parties and other fun because he's at the print shop doing work for "the people". As a result, he always gets bitter when anyone talks about whatever they did in their free time, because they - like him - should be working for "the cause" in their free time. He doesn't seem to realize that most of his friends' paying jobs are for "the cause", that they also volunteer many hours on top of that, and the reason why they can have free time to do fun stuff is that they've scheduled and arranged things so they can have both. He never gets that perhaps he could choose to do less work and have more fun if he wanted that - and that he probably wouldn't have to cut back on either if he was efficient with his time - he does a lot of running around and socializing to drop off promotional materials when organizers would gladly pick them up at the print shop since he's doing it for super cheap for them.

"It truly is the one commonality that every designation of humans you can think of has, there's at least one asshole."

Dude, *never* make fun of the receptionist. Doesn't he read "Dilbert"? Very bad things can happen if you annoy the person who actually does the work. I'm pretty kind to unit clerks!

I've read re: interviewing techniques how a lot of companies will ask the receptionist or security guard how s/he was treated by the person who came to interview for the job. I always made a point to say, "Thank-you," to the receptionist or guard after I interviewed for a job or for whatever reason I was in that office or building.
I'm nice to the receptionists and admin assistants because I know I would never be able to do their jobs and the whole place would fall apart if it weren't for them.

Lots of moos don't realize that being an exec assistant or a receptionist is more than taking messages and answering phones. You have to know everything about the company and if someone asks you a question, you need to be able to answer it within 5 seconds.

And if you are an exec assistant, you need to know exactly where Mr. C-Class executive is at this very moment, right down to the street he is on in Asia. Is it any wonder that lots of people in power got their starts being someone's assistant?

Cleaners really know the deal as they are all over the building or property. Security does rely on cleaning crew for the scoop of what is happening...
