New Netflix show on medical device safety (including Essure)

There's a show about the medical device industry which covers five unsafe products, including Essure.

To approve a prescription drug, medicine must be tested in humans, the manufacturer must compile data on its effects and a panel of FDA scientists must give it final approval.

The same process is not required for medical devices. Those can be approved if the manufacturer demonstrates that it is equivalent to a device on the market – even if the device it is being compared to has been recalled.

Holy cow. I had NO idea about this. I've been made aware of the dangers of pharmaceutical drugs, but this is a whole 'nother ball of wax.

I think that a lot of us have been taught to blindly trust doctors and the Medical Institution. It's not like they have EVER done something slippery or harmful to people because of the money...nope, that couldn't happen at all.
