Concert
August 21, 2006
Last nite SO and I saw Steely Dan with some friends. I saw a number of pahrunts there with kids on their laps.

What chaps my ass is these pahrunts had these kids out way late, the concert was over after 11, which makes for a seriously bitchy child. They had them on their laps - YES, their LAPS. I honestly can't imagine what those people were thinking.

My thoughts are:

1. What makes you think your 6 year old likes Steely Dan?
2. Don't you think the kid on your lap, squirming and bitching, may have annoyed the people around you?
3. Don't you think it was an inappropriate place for a child?
4. Don't you think your constant getting up and walking the kid to the bathroom made for a hellish evening for the people in the row you had to climb over?
5. If you couldn't get a sitter, you should have STAYED HOME.
6. WHY did the security at Montage allow this to go on? No ticket, no entry. Simple as that, it doesn't matter if you plan to hold Shitford on your lap.

Thank the GODS we didn't sit near any of them but I saw them in the crowd. I felt sorry for the people around them. But then again, selfish breeders. What do you expect?

Breeders are why I hate to go to movies or concerts. One moo on a discussion board snidely told the childfree to stay home if they did not like to hear brats screaming, crying, and generally misbehaving. Sad to say, most of us are starting to do that; however, doing so also means that our dollars are not being spent at certain places which means merchants lose out. Breeders tend to be the cheapest people. Ask my mom who is a server...and ask other servers I know...because most moos are the worst tippers and they complain the most regardless of where they are spending money.

I came here to post a concert rant of my own, so I'll just add it to this thread.

This morning, I received an e-mail from one of the minor league baseball teams whose games I go to. Bob Dylan will be in concert at the ballpark at the end of August. I checked my calendar, and it is on a date when we could go. Catdaddy loves Dylan, and I thought I'd buy tickets as a little surprise for him.

Then I remembered a Def Leppard concert that was at another ballpark, which had advertised that kids under 12 get in free. We're not DL fans, so we didn't want to go anyway, but I thought it was a stupid idea to bring sprogs to such a concert.

So I looked for the fine print for the Dylan show, and sure enough, I found it: sprogs 12 and under get in FREE. Damn. I know what this means. Why pay for a sitter when the Breedersons can bring Bratleigh and Snotford in FOR FREE?

It also pisses me off that these kids will be taking up seats that could have been SOLD to Dylan FANS for $50 apiece. I just don't see how pandering to breeders can be good for the bottom line. And there are probably the same amount of sprogs who are Dylan fans as there are sprog Steely Dan fans...probably almost NONE. What a waste of good seats.

If we were to go to this thing, it would probably be a lot like KFLL's Steely Dan concert...lots of bored, tired sprogs who hate the music and do not want to be there. If the sprogs had to have the $50 tickets, perhaps the breeders would think twice about bringing them...in this case, it would be much cheaper to hire a sitter.

I know that minor league ballparks are supposed to be famblee-friendly, but that should only be when there are baseball games going on (and it's annoying enough even then). Bob Dylan fans are probably mostly older adults, people our age (I am 46 and Catdaddy is 54). I am disappointed that Dylan did not choose to appear at a venue that DOES charge for sprog tickets. A couple of years ago, we went to see B.B. King at the North Shore Music Theatre, where they do charge for sprogs. As far as I know, sprog discounts only apply to the children's shows. So I think that breeders would have had to pay the same ticket price if they wanted to bring their brats. I think we paid about $65 a pop for our tickets. And there was not a sprog in sight at that show. As it should be for such a concert.

I've never seen Dylan in concert, but I would like to. Catdaddy has seen him, and I'm sure he'd like to see him again. I'll forget the surprise thing and just ask him if he wants to brave it. But I get the feeling he won't be too anxious to drop $100 for our tickets only to have crying sprogs ruin the concert for us.

This is my biggest pet peeve and I don't understand what is going on with all these individuals that this has been becoming an epidemic.

I went to the race track yesterday, and I have been going to this track for years, decades even. Used to be sans brats but now , me and DH are basically only ones with out brats there. They also had pony rides and a petting zoo and other stuff. When did everything come an amusement park for kids. Needless to say, many of these families weren't busy gambling, or buying food b/c they brought coolers in. Other than the small charge to get in, why would the race track even WANT these families there? confused smiley

I'd LOVE to see Bob Dylan one of these days!!!

WTF is up with this brats at racetracks thing? A track is a place where people DRINK and GAMBLE. Jeebus-Keyrist on a thoroughbred!

Right now, brats are still not allowed on casino floors...at least that was still the case last time I was at Mohegan Sun. I am not big into gambling, but I enjoy going to a casino and drinking at the bar, just because it's brat-free. It's better than going to a strip club, which is another of the few CF places left on the planet.

Can't ANYTHING be just for adults anymore?
Re: Concert

Casino security is very strict about underage people. This is not a game to casinos due to licensing and laws. It is sad that a place of gambling is the only place where a childfree person can go where children will not be present. I don't drink and I don't gamble. Where can CF people like us go where there is not any type of addictive behaviour??? confused smiley

That's an excellent point you bring up, India. There should definitely be child-free restaurants, theatres, and other places that don't necessarily involve drinking, gambling, or porn. CF sections at ballparks would be nice, as well. How about a CF section of a library? I used to love to go to the library, but now I don't because the place is loaded with howling crackmonkeys. I guess the days of loud sprogs being kicked out of the library are long gone.

I saw Bob Dylan once about 5 years ago. There were brats there under the age of 5. I'm dying to know why a breeder needs to have their kyd there and why someone 3-4 yrs old would want to see him and hear his songs. This isn't pop music even which something real catchy might be amusing for a brat, think Yellow Submarine.

Now that I brought up Yellow Sub., I used to always see Ringo when he toured but not anymore. I hear now that everyone brings their brats and they all get up and sing Yellow Sub and Octopus's Garden. I don't go to shows of the Wiggles, and I refuse to go to concerts if breeders are gonna change my rock concert experience into Sesame Street On Parade. moody smiley

And no, there is NOWHERE to go anymore that isn't swarming with ill behaved brats. If you don't want Strippers and drunks and gambling, there is no where. In fact, with all these bar/restaurants and numbnuck breeders bring brats to bars and breeders bringing brats to the fuckin' race track, you can't even do that anymore. I swear I think I saw more brats than the typical racetrack activities and gamblers there. And, they are always 5 and under, some ten and under, but do breeders hate their brats when they start growing up, because you almost never see older kyds. I think breeders kill them off and try to conceive another cuyte baybee again. :spin

I had no idea there were so many Dylan, Def Leppard and Steely Dan fans under the age of 12! What precocious, special Indigo children!

Update: I e-mailed Catdaddy at work about this Dylan show, told him about the *brats get in free* thing, and HE STILL WANTS TO GO.

Yep...he loves Bob Dylan THAT much.

A couple of points that he brought up: The *brats get in free* thing is NOT advertised on the front page of the site; I actually had to dig around a little bit to find it. So maybe most of the breeders won't know about it. There is NOTHING that I saw on the ticket-buying screens that said that sprogs get in free.

Also, the fact that the tickets went on sale a month ago, the show is now only two weeks away and they STILL have tickets available means that people are not busting down the doors to go to this show.

Since he really wants to go, I went ahead and ordered the tickets. I'll let you all know how it goes, after the event.

They'd better at least have beer there, as they do for baseball games!
Re: Concert

if the brats do turn up, and cause havoc, i would write to the promoter even bob himself, saying it was supposed to be a wonderful evening, but those little monsters ruined it.

No, I met a breeder at a wedding who took his brat to a NIN concert and whoooooh, was surprised it was dirty. oh my! I tried to be polite, but asked why he didn't check it out first. duh.

especially, now with the internet, isn't just about everything pretty researchable and on the tips of our fingers?

BREEDERS ARE JUST STUPID!
Re: Concert

Moos taking their sprogs to NIN concerts does not surprise me. I see many counter-culture young moms at the mall. They got the tattoos, blue or jet black hair, body piercings, and the like while they push those strollers. I was bummed when moos thought it would be cool to be "different" since I am a tattoo'd woman. I had hoped this would remain a CF thing. I know...I'm weird. :cool

Here's what's really funny about this. These older breeders set their chidren up to be the biggest nerds in school by making these older bands the only music their child is exposed to! I love music and enjoy a wide variety of it, including top 40 music, and the above mentioned bands. When these children go to school and say they went to a Steeley Dan, or Bob Dylan concert they might be setting themselves up for some teasing from the kids who are more aware of popular music.
My stepson has sat through Sade and several other concerts that would be appropriate for the 40+ crowd. He is never exposed to any music other than the type his mother listens to.

Now you have a good point, Sherz! These *geezer* concerts have to be the most UNCOOL things for kids these days.

Picture these scenarios...

Catdaddy goes to work on Monday after Bob Dylan show.

Co-worker: Hey Catdaddy, what did you do over the weekend?
Catdaddy: We went to see Bob Dylan in Manchester.
Co-worker: Cool balls! How was it?

But picture it with a hypothetical kid of ours...

Sprogleigh: Hey, Catbrat, what did you do over the weekend?
Catbrat: my mom and dad made me go to this boring-assed Bob Dylan show.
Sprogleigh: HAHAHAHAHHA, what a LOSER you are! You could not MAKE YOUR PARENTS take you someplace cooler? LOSER!!!!!

If these breeders don't know what NIN is, or any of their songs WHY IN THE NAME OF ARTEMIS ARE THEY THERE!!!! Jeebers Cripes, how disrespectful.
Re: Concert
August 22, 2006
of course if they like the music, when i was younger i love and i still do the blues, but i couldnt tell anyone as i would have been laughed at, i had to take some notice of modern music.

**These older breeders set their chidren up to be the biggest nerds in school by making these older bands the only music their child is exposed to!**

people should try to listen to as many types of music they can, regardless, so you can discover gems, or know you hate rap music which i really do, i hate dylan, i dont object to people listening, i know there are major fans out, i listened i decided.

but then i am one who prefers songs to types of singers or singers.

if my brother took me to see a concert i didnt like, i would say next time no thanks, which i have done i saw squeeze live in liverpool, i find squeeze to be awful, so i never went or heard anything by them again. but i gave it a chance. like everyone should, try it, if you like it good, if you dont thats good too..

and parents should realise that. give the choice for the kids to decide, or they will rebel against your tastes in music and listen to other types.. which are totally unacceptable, like xtian rock LOL,
