Fun peanut allergy FB argument.
May 13, 2011
Lurked forever. Time to post.

I hate to give away my real name, but it's pretty obvious who I am in this one.

The gist of the story: Kids make a mess of the school lunchroom. School decides to cut hot lunches and give the kids PB&J. The ZOMGPEAAAANNNUT AWWERRRGIE MAWM squad goes berserk.

WHY this sudden surge of kids being allergic to everything in the past decade? I realize that some people are deathly allergic to nuts, but this was quite rare until recently. Are all of these kids really that allergic or is it still only a handful and all of the others who itch at the sight of a packaged Snickers bar or start gasping for air at a picture of jar of Jif really even allergic at all, I wonder?confused smiley

If YOU are the "exception" to what I am saying, then why does my commentary bother you so much?
I don't hate your kids, I HATE YOU!

Somebody commented:

"I do not care what happens to your kid due to food allergies. Have you heard of natural selection?"

I love this person! :yr

1. parents eager to have some kind of "special needs" brat have confused "intolerance" with "allergy". where before having the kid's ass break out in a rash was "oh, dear-johnny cannot have strawberries", now, suddenly, it's "HOLY FUCK! MY CHILD IS ALLERGIC TO STRAWBERRIES! BAN THE STRAWBERRY JELLY AND SHORTCAKES!!!!!"

2. mothers cannot eat nuts, peanuts, berries, seafood, chocolate, caffeine, booze, eggs, red meat, etc. while pregnant. during their development, kids could build tolerances to these foods.

3. everything is "anti-bacterial" and shit, so kids are not developing immune systems and tolerances outside the womb either. years ago, kids played in dirt and mud, did not always wash hands before eating, climbed on everything, etc. now they are confined to "playdates" arranged at other people's houses, wash everything in anti-bacterial cleaners, everything kept sanitary and safe and clean. it's an obsessive compulsive child rearing.

What an awful load of pathetic caterwauling. If these moos are so upset about their loaves not getting a decent lunch and being exposed to the evil toxic peanut aura, then FUCKING MAKE YOUR KID LUNCH. Put it in a bag or a lunch box. You did it with your own two sainted mother hands, right? Does your pweshus sneauxflaiyke deserve any less? My Mom made my lunch the entire time I was in school, and not because I had any "allergies." She just did it. Yup, she got up in the morning before I went to school. She wasn't lollygagging around in bed recovering from a hangover from her weeknight out with the "girls." She made my Dad and me breakfast AND made my lunch (he came home for lunch). How the fuck haaarrrd is it, when your chylldreennn are gawd's gift and the most impooorrrtant things on this planet????

Wow. What a clusterfuck of righteously indignant hens!

Where has this overload of peanut allergies come from? I am tempted to quote Dale Gribble, AKA Rusty Shackleford from "King Of The Hill" - "The peanuts are tired of being eaten and are now fighting back!"

To paraphrase the illustrious and erudite paranoid Mr. Shackleford smiling smiley

On a serious note - I do believe it is all the chemicals in our systems, bio engineered / genetically altered foods, etc. And/or - a child's lesser system not being able to process such gunk.

It might not be peanuts at all - might be Hydrolyzed Soy Protein. Hydrolysis was formerly used to crack long chain molecules such as those in petroleum. What it entails is boiling the product in acid and then neutralizing it with caustic soda. Which is lye.

Hydrolyzed Soy Protein can be found in a whole host of products and it is nasty shit. Chemically similar to MSG - which is why it is used in foods.

Go look at what's in your pantry. This horrible crap is in lots of foods - including nut products. Why nuts need MSG is anyone's guess - but it's in there. Its in alot of stuff. I personally can't eat it -makes me sick, just like MSG does. Which it pretty much IS.

I love how some products - as example - Progresso soups - state right on their label that there is NO MSG*
* = in fine print on the bottom - "except what occurs naturally".

Now I don't know about you - but me personally - I wouldn't call boiling something in acid then washing it in lye a "natural occurrence". smile rolling left righteyes2

With all hails to Zzelda...

I now have to wake up DH and have him read that.

That's two Hunter S. Thompson refs in a night (someone else mentioned not fucking someone who calls themself Dr. Gonzo on another thread). He's a big fan. Did you know that the Dale character is a loose caricature of the good doctor?

I think I may have to adopt this as my new personal mantra for whatever someone is up in arms about. Just throw it out there as a ridiculous argument stopper; THE PEANUTS ARE TIRED OF BEING EATEN AND ARE NOW FIGHTING BACK!"

Oh, man, you guys kill me. Really. I Still feel a little dirty after reading Miss Hannigan's comment.

edit to add:

Hydrolyzed Soy Protein can be found in a whole host of products and it is nasty shit. Chemically similar to MSG - which is why it is used in foods.

I've heard some not so good things about soy products from a woman that survived breast cancer and a pre-cancerous thyroid condition, so I know she's done her research on the topic. But she told me that soy contains a lot of estrogen that can affect your natural hormone levels and that women in their menopausal years are best to keep away from soy based products. I don't know, though, I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express, ever. Can anyone hear clarify this? Paging Dr Dan, Rosalind or her present cyber incarnation, thom_c.....

(I know, google, but I'm on dial up here. It took me thirty seconds to load this comment for crying out loud.

Noodler - I hear you on the soy and Estrogen.

That's bad enough. But when they're boiling in acid and neutralizing it with lye yeah - IMO that's really mondo gross.

It does produce a quasi MSG type - substance. Oog.

I gotta hit the sack here to get up for work, but tomorrow I will hunt down and put a link that details this foul shit.

Oh here's another thing - off the topic - but in some way related - I gotta hunt this one down too - I heard on the news that some near state to me is now ALLOWING people to pick up ROAD KILL.

Oh that's a good idea! Lets cook up this chemically befouled potentially rabies laden and half rotted dead animal - Mmm Mmm GOOD!

They won't let you smoke a joint but you CAN pick up road kill?

Jesus F. Christ.

I will try to find that story too.

Erg.

NO PEANUTS! NO FOOD STAMP FOR YOU EITHER! YOU COOK DEAD RACCOON NOW!

What the fuck?

What's that crunchy taste? Did you give my child PEANUTS!!!???

Uh, No Ma'am - that would be residual asphalt from the road kill.

I fucking love that paranoid nutjob Dale Gribble.

As for nut allergy: I ate delicious Nutella my whole life until I suddenly developed an allergy to hazelnut in my early 20s. No idea why. If I eat even a tiny bit of hazelnut, I get horrible cramps.sad smiley

I wonder if this will increase the amount of roadkill--not big things, like elk, which could kill you and seriously damage your vehicle, but small things, which people might deliberately run over so they could legitimately pick them up. Or if people will just shoot deer out of season and then run a few treads over them (after cutting off the bit near the shot) to make the roadkill claim...

Anyhow, if it is fresh, I don't think it's that much of a risk, although you'd have to clean it carefully because of rupture of internal organs. Otherwise it wouldn't be that different from game you've shot, in terms of disease risk (it would be a lower quality meat though, from the bruising). Anyone who would want to pick up old road kill is probably too hungry to care about whether it's legal or not, and what health risks might be associated with it.

So I can't see any reason not to let people do it, except for the possible increase of accident-on-purpose road-killing.

grinning smiley LOL

I found some info on hydrolyzed soy protein -
http://www.soyinfo.com/soydefs.shtml

This is funny too - when I just now punched this into Google - the autofill also threw up "hydrolyzed soy protein gluten free"
Um. Yeah. IMO if you have the gluten problem you probably would want to stay away from this shizz.

Still looking for the roadkill story - I saw that on TV and forgot where and the details. But - I did think of a horrifying possibility - what if the dead animal had eaten ......... PEANUTS!!! OH NOES!!! ZOMG!!11

And gawd forbid the thing at WHEAT!!! Maybe our favorite blogger should make a topic on how to find quality gluten free roadkill.
